In one aspect, an optical device includes two or more planar lenses (208,209), and one or more dielectric layers (210-212). Each planar lens includes a non-periodic, sub-wavelength grating layer (1110), and each dielectric layer is disposed adjacent to at least one planar lens to form a solid structure. The two or more planar lenses are substantially parallel and arranged to have a common optical axis (214) so that light transmitted through the optical device substantially parallel to the optical axis is refracted by the two or more planar lenses.

The metal layers of the MDM structure (104) are disposed about orthogonally to the p-i junction (130) and the i-n junction (134); the dielectric medium includes the intrinsic portion (114); and, the MDM structure (104) is configured to enhance modulation frequency of the LED (101) through interaction with surface plasmons that are present in the metal layers.

摘要： Various embodiments of the present invention relate to systems that can be used as holograms and can be electronically controlled and dynamically reconfigured to generate three-dimensional motion picture images. In one embodiment, a dynamically reconfigurable hologram (1200) comprises a phase-control layer (1202) including a two-dimensional array of phase-modulation pixels (1212). The hologram also comprises an intensity-control layer (1204) including a two-dimensional array of intensity-control pixels (1214). One or more three-dimensional motion pictures can be produced by electronically addressing the individual phase-modulation pixels and intensity-control pixels in order to phase and control the intensity of light emanating from pixels of the hologram.

摘要： Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to negative refractive index-based holograms that can be electronically controlled and dynamically reconfigured to generate one or more color three-dimensional holographic images. In one aspect, a hologram comprises a phase-control layer (1402) having a plurality of phase-modulation elements (1412). The phase-modulation elements are configured with a negative effective refractive index and selectively transmit wavelengths associated with one of three primary color wavelength. The hologram also includes an intensity-control layer (1404) including a plurality of intensity-control elements (1414). One or more color three-dimensional images can be produced by electronically addressing the phase-modulation elements and intensity-control elements in order to phase shift and control the intensity of light transmitted through the hologram. A method for generating a color holographic image using the hologram is also provided, as is a system for generating a color holographic image.
