    • This invention relates to an engine output controller which controls the output of an engine (4) mounted to a vehicle such as an automobile by a throttle valve (6) driven by a drive-by-wire system, or the like. First target control quantity setting means (30A) sets a first target control quantity (Υ1) in accordance with an operation quantity of an artificial operation member (20), second target control quantity setting means (40A) sets a second target control quantity (Υ2) which can control the slip of wheels (15) and is the same kind of quantity as the first target control quantity described above, third target control quantity setting means (50A) sets a third target control quantity (Υ3) which is necessary for constant speed driving and is the same kind of quantity as the first and second target quantities described above, and target control quantity selection means selects one of the first, second and third target control quantities in accordance with a driving mode of the vehicle. Engine output control quantity setting means (70A) sets an engine output control quantity (Υt) on the basis of the target control quantity selected by the target control quantity selection means. The engine output is controlled by the engine output control means (7, 90) on the basis of this engine output control quantity (Υt) through engine output regulating means (6). In this manner, a plurality of controls such as acceleration-by-wire control, traction control, automatic cruise control and the like can be integrally incorporated as a single vehicle control without inviting complicated control.
