    • The invention relates to a saddle tank device (1) for internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, comprising at least two chambers (2, 4) which have large cross-sections, which can be filled with fuel and which are connected together in a communicating manner by means of an upper bridge connection (6) having a smaller cross-section in the mounted position, a fuel delivery device, which is arranged in the first chamber (2), is used to supply fuel to the internal combustion engine, a filling neck (12) which is used to fill the first chamber (2) with fuel, in addition to a tank-limiting device (14) which is arranged in the second chamber (4). The invention is characterised in that a check-valve device (24) comprising a valve closing member (35) which co-operates with a valve seat (32) and which can be actuated by inertia forces emerging from acceleration of the vehicle and/or the force of its own weight and/or other forces such as spring forces, is arranged in the smaller cross-section of the upper bridge connection (6). The check-valve device (24) is embodied in such a manner that an overflow of fuel from the first chamber (2) into the second chamber (4) and vice-versa is possible when the vehicle is not in the accelerated state or is, essentially, non inclined, enabling the fuel to splash over from the second chamber (4) into the first chamber (2), but preventing an overflow of fuel from the first chamber (2) into the second chamber (4) when the vehicle is accelerated or is inclined.
