    • An apparatus for producing combustible gases from biomass feeds comprising an outer cylindrical structure (101) being defined by a sidewall (102), a bottom supporting base (103) and a substantially tapered top (104); an inner cylindrical structure (105) being enclosed concentrically within the outer cylindrical structure and having a first opening at its top, a sidewall (106) and a base seated on the bottom supporting base (103) such that a gap between the sidewalls (102, 106) of the outer (101) and inner cylindrical structure (105) which forms an air passage connecting to an air chamber is defined within the inner cylindrical structure (105) through the first opening; wherein the air chamber is tapered towards a second opening (109) at the bottom of the inner cylindrical structure (105); a feed inlet (107) being installed adjacent to the bottom of the outer cylindrical structure (101) and connecting to the air passage; an air inlet pipe (121) being connected to the feed inlet (107); an outlet pipe (108) extending from the tapered top (104) and connecting to the upper portion of the air chamber within the inner cylindrical structure (105); and a waste collection assembly consisting of a rotary valve (114) and a waste chamber (115) connected to the second opening (109); wherein the air passage allows a cyclonic vortex of a mixture of air and the biomass feeds to swirl upwards inside the outer cylindrical structure (101) and downwards into the inner cylindrical structure (105) upon reaching the tapered top (104) of the outer cylindrical structure (101) to discharge ash through the second opening (109) into the waste chamber (115), resulting in the vortex to swirl upwards from the tapered bottom of the inner cylindrical structure (105), driving the produced combustible gases out of the inner cylindrical structure (105) through the outlet pipe (108).

    • The invention relates to a method for the allothermal gasification of solid, carbon-containing gasification fuels, in which the gasification fuel is dried in a dryer (30) and is subsequently gasified in a fluidised bed vapour gasifier (10), wherein the heat required for the allothermal gasification is supplied to the fluidised bed vapour gasifier (10) by means of inert heat transfer media, in particular finely divided solids, which are circulated through the fluidised bed vapour gasifier (10) and through a separate fluidised bed combustion (20). In order to generate less problematic waste during such a method and yet achieve a good yield of hydrogen-rich product gas, according to the invention the gasification fuel is dried in the dryer (30) in a vapour atmosphere and flue gas-free and water vapour-containing drying vapours that develop and are generated during drying are fed to the fluidised bed vapour gasifier (10) as a fluidising medium and as a reactant.

    • It is the aim of the present invention to provide a process and a system for the gasification and/or combustion of biomass and/or coal with an at least partial carbon dioxide separation enabling an effective gasification as well as an un-expensive and effective separation of carbon dioxide thereby achieving a long-term stability of the materials used in the process. These objectives are achieved by a process for the gasification and/or combustion of biomass and/or coal with an at least partial carbon dioxide separation using a combined combustion/gasification reactor (2) having a combustion part (6) and a gasification part (4), comprising the steps of: a) feeding the coal and/or feeding biomass into the gasification part (4) of the combustion/gasification reactor (2); b) in the gasification part (4), optionally under a feed of water or water vapour, heating and optionally pressuring the coal and/or the biomass at an elevated temperature and at an optionally elevated pressure in order to generate a product gas (8); c) filtering the product gas (8) to separate ash, soot and other solid particles from the product gas (8); d) feeding the filtered product gas (8')and an oxidized bed material (20) into the combustion part (6) of the combustion/gasification reactor (2); e) in the combustion part (6), at least partially reducing the oxidized bed material (20) in order to generate heat that is being transferred partially into the gasification part (4); f) leading the exhaust gas (16) of the combustion part (6) to a turbine or a heat exchanger or into a further combustion reactor (18) or a catalytic conversion and leading the at least partially reduced bed material (22) into an oxidation reactor (24) fed with air (26) in order to re-oxidize the bed material prior to its recirculation into the combustion part (6).
