    • A peripheral sliding seal for sealing the liquid propellant in a cylindrical tank 10 containing a piston 14 for positive expulsion of the liquid propellant. The seal comprises a peripheral inward flange member 16 around the piston periphery adjacent the inner wall of the tank, an annular pressure ring 18 bonded to the flange member 16 and forming several recesses therewith, one recess containing a compliant sealing ring 20 and the other containing a shear seal 32 bonded both to the flange member 16 and to the entrance head 12 of the tank. The bonds prevent internal and external leakage of the liquid fuel during storage. Pressurization of the piston 14 permits the piston 14 to move and breaks the shear seal 32. The compliant-ring seal slides with the piston 14, the compliant ring 20 being pressed against the inner wall of the tank by resilient fingers 34 of the pressure ring 18 to form a sliding seal.

    • A sealing ring device is provided for a fluid valve having a piston (2) reciprocating within a cylinder (1), wherein the piston (2) includes a valve cone (2c) adapted to contact a valve seat (11). In order to seal the inner space of the cylinder (1) located behind the piston (2) from an inlet/outlet passageway (A), a resilient sealing ring (5) is disposed in an annular groove (4) opening into the cylinder (1) around the rear end (2a) of the piston (2). A press ring (7), which extends above the rear end (2a) of the piston (2), contains the sealing ring (5) in the annular groove (4). A spring element (8) rests on the press ring (7). A piston rod (3) is guided in slidable manner through the piston (2). A stop (9) is attached to the rod (3) above the rear end (2a) and opposite the top side of the spring element (8). Downward movement of the rod (3) past the end position of piston (2) causes the stop (9) to compress the spring element (8), and the resulting force is transferred by the press ring (7) to the sealing ring (5) to expand the sealing ring (5) against the piston (2) and the cylinder (1).

    • A well-pressure operated pump having a tubular pump body provided with an interior, annular seating surface to receive a valve member mounted on a rod extending through the seating surface. An air spring in the pump body urges the rod upwardly in response to fluid pressure in the pump body and the height of the seating surface and the position of the valve member on the rod are adjustable for adjusting the well pressure at which the valve member is seated. Seal assemblies mounted on the pump body are adjustable to match the pump to the internal diameter of the well casing and the seal assemblies are provided with retainer rings having flanges that capture end portions of a sealing member of each seal assembly. A brake, having a plate that is spring loaded to overlay a shoulder in the bore of the pump body, slows the rate of descent of the pump through gases in the well. An aspirator formed in the support for the plate holds the plate off the shoulder during passage of the pump through liquids in the well.
