    • The invention relates to external sealing of pipe joints. The invention provides a wide seal strip useful in combination with a coupling for pipes, the length, and hence the diameter of the seal strip being adjustable also on site. The invention provides a pipe clamp flexible seal strip adaptable to be easily shortened by the user to a required length. The seal strip being configured for use inside a pipe coupling, and having at least one narrow dividing cut which extends across the width of the seal to almost completely divide a major portion of the strip length from a minor portion thereof. The minor portion remaining connected to the major portion by at least one bridge member which can easily be severed on site for removal and disposal of the minor portion.

    • A unitary removable barrier for installation in a cylindrical water line to selectively block the water line to passage of water therethrough. The unitary removable barrier is composed of a single piece rubber body having at least one cylindrical section sized to receive upstream and downstream pipes of the water line. A unitary rubber planar disc molded with the cylindrical section is of a circular circumference and which completely blocks the water line but which is selectively removable from the cylindrical section thus removing the barrier to the passage of the waste through the line.

    • The invention relates to an adjusting element having a cylinder 1, the interior space 8 of which contains a pressurized medium. A piston is arranged displaceably in the cylinder 1, said piston having a piston rod 4 which protrudes out of the cylinder 1 at one end of the cylinder 1. The piston rod 4 is surrounded by an annular seal 5 which, with its inner, radially encircling circumference, bears in a sealing manner against the piston rod 4 and, with its outer, radially encircling circumference, bears in a sealing manner against the inner wall of the cylinder 1, is acted upon, on the side facing the interior space 8, by the pressure of the medium and, with its side facing away from the interior space 8, is supported on a supporting element 10. The supporting element, in turn, with its end facing away from the annular seal 5, is supported on part of the cylinder 1, it being possible for the supporting element 10, when a defined bearing force of the annular seal 5 against the supporting element 10 is exceeded, to be deformed somewhat telescopically, reducing its axial length in the cylinder 1, from a normal position into an overload position, as a result of which a passage opening 19 from the interior space 8 of the cylinder 1 to the surroundings can be produced. The supporting element 10 has a first part 11 which is arranged in the cylinder 1 and a second part 13 which is connected to the first part, can be moved from the normal position toward the first part 11 into the overload position and against which the annular seal 5 bears, it being possible for one end of a stop to be supported on the first part 11, said stop, in the normal position, protruding through the second part 13 axially in order to extend the cylinder 1 at least until close to the annular seal 5.

    • Apparatus for connecting a first pre-charged section of an air conditioning system to refrigerant lines connecting the section to a second section of the system. A service unit is employed to connect each refrigerant line to the pre-charge section which includes a body fabricated from a square or rectangular piece of bar stock. A main channel is formed through the bar stock and one end of the main channels is coupled to a suitable system component in the pre-charged section by a tube. A connector having a penetratable seal is mounted in the opposite end of the channel. The connector has a male fitting that is threaded into a female fitting. One fitting is mounted in the opposite end of the main channel and the other fitting is mounted in the refrigerant line. The seal is ruptured or broken when the male fitting is threaded into the female fitting a sufficient depth to establish a leak proof joint therebetween. A process valve is also mounted on the bar stock body and communicates with the main channel via an auxiliary channel. The process valve is used in the factory to charge refrigerant into the section prior to the section being shipped into the field.

    • An improved pipe seal assembly for use in the walls of a poured concrete tank or box in an on-site waste disposal system, a drainage system, and other poured concrete structures, the assembly including a seal member having an inclined, frusto-conical shaped wiper flange which is integrally connected by a living hinge to a cylindrical seal body, the wiper flange initially extending outwardly when the seal member is formed, such as by injection molding, but then folded inwardly about the living hinge member to its normal operating position. The improved pipe seal assembly includes an integrally-formed tearaway membrane, which has a pull tab member and associated score lines, to permit the membrane's selective removal when desired, thereby allowing the seal member to slideably receive a pipe extended through the folded wiper blade. The inwardly folded wiper flange also acts to releasably retain a mandrel to permit in-place casting of the improved pipe seal assembly within the wall of a poured concrete box or tank member.
