    • A brush-type packing means for shield tunnel excavators which is high in wear resistance and shielding effect against underground water is provided. The packing means comprises at least two rows of resilient wire brushes secured substantially in parallel ring shape along inner periphery of substantially cylindrical excavator body adjacent its tail end or peripheral edge of tunnel entrance on wall surface of vertical shaft as spaced in tunnelling direction to close a gap space between the tail end or the entrance edge and peripheral surface of tunnel wall element inserted in excavated tunnel, and the space between the respective rows of the wire brushes is sealed with a material which is viscous and impermeable to water.

    • In a tunnel driving apparatus which employs hydraulic rams for advancing a shield in the direction of tunnel advancement, a thrust ring is used as a support for the rams. Lining sections are installed at the rear side of the thrust ring as the latter is shifted up. These lining sections are each spaced from the exposed tunnel wall when installed to receive fluid concrete used to form a tunnel lining. The thrust ring defines chambers, one of which has filter means which faces the concrete reception space and contacts the concrete therein. Water is withdrawn from the concrete by suction created by reducing the pressure in the chambers and the other of the chambers is used to collect the water. Inflatable packings are used to seal off the concrete reception space and can be deflated when the thrust ring is shifted up.

    • The invention relates to a process and device for backfilling of a roadway structure of mine and tunnel construction utilizing support hoses filled with a hardening filler. The hoses, when empty, are supported by the roadway support, after being put in place on the support are filled and thereby stretched out to form an inflated profile which locks onto the support section. The process and device used has the advantages of not being limited to certain specific support structure spacings and may be applied to a variety of roadway sections. The support section has the general shape of an I-beam and when used in multi-part roadway structures the section junctions are protected against overloads even when they are designed with limited yieldability. The support hose is laid on and supported over part of its length directly by the outer face of an "I" beam support section flange facing the rock. Where the flange supports the hose, the support section flange wholly or partly indents the cross-section contour of the inflated profile when the support hose is stretched out as it is filled with the hardener compound.

    • A plant for use in tunnel constructions and having a drive shield with a cutting head for driving into a working face to advance the tunnel. A plurality of rams which act upon an abutment member are used to drive the shield forwards. The abutment member transmits the forces from the rams to a mass of fluid concrete introduced under pressure and supported on support means such as a tubular shell or series of rings spaced inwardly from the tunnel wall. The concrete when hardened forms a continuous lining for the tunnel wall. Water is removed from the fluid concrete with the aid of filters provided on the abutment member or the support means.
