    • A spindle for use in an automobile chassis is provided. An aluminum knuckle with an axial through hole defined in its interior is provided along with a substantially cylindrical steel stem with an interlocking feature defined on one end. The interlocking feature has an extended flange with an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the through hole in the knuckle. The interlocking feature also has a frusto-conical section and at least a portion of the stem is welded to at least a portion of the through hole such that the interlocking feature is within the through hole.

    • The invention relates to a wheel suspension for the driven wheels of a motor vehicle which are each fastened detachably by means of wheel bolts to a contact surface of a brake member which for its part is mounted rotatably by means of at least one roller bearing on a suspension connected in pivotable manner to the frame or structure of the vehicle and is connected to a drive shaft. In order to provide a structurally simple connection which is free of play both in the axial as well as in the radial direction the end of the drive shaft on the wheel side is connected via a shaft section having a polygonal outer contour directly to the brake member. Furthermore the drive shaft adjoining this polygonal shaft section is constructed with a cylindrical shaft section serving as the seat for the roller bearing.

    • A vent system for a wheel hub comprising a first filtered vent at the wheel end cavity and a second vent formed by a one-way, pressure relief valve venting the axle tube to atmosphere. The vent system defines a vent path from the wheel end cavity through a first, preferably filtered, vent into the axle tube then through a second check valve connecting the axle tube to atmosphere. A porous material is positioned to cover the vent passage at the wheel end cavity for allowing a flow of gases to enter and exit the vent passage while preventing liquids and other contaminants from traveling therethrough.     • An axle assembly for supporting wheels is provided that has a spindle defining an axis of rotation with a threaded end portion. A hub assembly is supported by the spindle and is adapted to support the wheels. A bearing assembly is arranged adjacent to the threaded end portion and is interposed between the spindle and the hub assembly for permitting low friction rotation of the hub assembly relative to the spindle about the axis. An end nut is secured to the threaded end portion of the spindle for retaining the bearing assembly and the hub assembly on the spindle. A washer is interposed between said bearing assembly and the end nut wherein the washer secures the end nut to the spindle for preventing rotation of the end nut about the axis.

    • A drive wheel roller disengages a drive wheel on a device from the drive axle connected directly to a motor, such that the drive wheel can spin freely to move the device when the motor is not on. The axle has an aperture which aligns with an aperture on the hub of the drive wheel. When the pin is in place the drive axle and the wheel turn in unison. When the pin is removed the wheel can spin freely on a bearing located between the wheel and the axle. A screw cap locks the wheel on the axle.

The composite spring seat has the following considerations; heat resistance (i.e., heat deflection temperatures in excess of about 500° F. and arc resistance in excess of 180° F.); high tensile and flexural strength properties in a broad temperature range (i.e., 41 ksi and 82 ksi respectively at 23° C.); and good impact properties (i.e., 41 ft/lb). The composite spring seat provides reduced weight (i.e. 15 lbs. to 6 lbs.), roughly half the manufacturing costs associated with the convention steel forging, and reduced noise transmitted by the composite material.
