    • A punching apparatus in which two tool portions come together to punch out a workpiece. At least one tool portion is mounted on a cylinder housing with one part of that tool portion fixed relative to the cylinder housing and another part movable relative to the cylinder housing. Such movement of the tool parts is provided by inner and outer piston systems in the cylinder housing. Either piston system can be fixed to the cylinder housing while the other remains movable relative to the cylinder housing. The movable part of the tool portion can be connected to either piston system, depending on which is arranged to be movable relative to the cylinder housing.

    • The subject of the present invention is a power system for a double-acting hydraulic press equipped with power cylinders and plungers whose motion is coupled together, these cylinders with plungers being situated outside of both working zones of the press. Each cylinder and plunger is of a different diameter; i.e., obtained are several different working faces of plungers, and several different displacement volumes. In the effect of such a design a whole series of pressures and press operation frequencies can be obtained in a press under constant parameters of the hydraulic system, namely the pressure and the delivery of the pumped liquid, for selecting in the press the optimum pressures and operation frequencies required for a particular working process. In this way a double-acting press equipped with the invented multi-pressure systems eliiminates the whole series of conventional hydraulic presses.

    • The subject of the present invention is a double-acting hydraulic press built with a monolithic frame of a casing type. Fixed slidably within the frame are four columns on which the press platen is rigidly mounted. In this manner there are obtained two working zones of the press: a top and bottom zone, thus eliminating the idle stroke of the press. Both ends of the columns outside of the frame of a casing type are linked together with two plates which are operating jointly with power plungers. The power plungers are working inside the cylinders mounted on the bottom and the top plate of the frame. Such a design ensures a reciprocal reduction of reactions from the cylinder and from the tool, these reactions affecting the frame which in this instance does not show any practical deformation.

    • A pressing cylinder, preferably for use in a refuse compressor, which when in use is preferably in a vertical position, and at the bottom is coupled to a pressing plate and at the top to a secured top plate and which can activate the pressing plate in upward and downward directions, includes preferably three cylinder sections, a first, lower cylinder section which at the bottom is attached to the pressing plate, a second, intermediate cylinder section which can be displaced telescopically in the cylinder's longitudinal direction on the first cylinder section, and a third, upper cylinder section which at the top is attached to the top plate, and which can be displaced telescopically on the second cylinder section. The cylinder can have a large diameter and operate at a correspondingly low working pressure and can therefore have a small wall thickness or be produced of materials other than steel. The pressing cylinder consequently becomes light, easy to operate and cheap to produce.

    • An improved punch assembly (10) for a punch press comprises a main piston (13) driving a punching tool (11) and an auxiliary piston (17) which can be selectively enabled to cooperate with the main pisto1 (13) in a high force, slow speed mode or disabled to allow the main pisto1 (13) to operate alone in a low force high speed mode. The punch assembly (10) also comprises a pressure transducer (41) and position transducer (25) whose respective outputs are connected to a microprocessor controller for the punch assembly. Operation of the punch press is microprocessor controlled to reduce noise and punch cycle time. A stripper assembly (42-48) is also provided and operates in conjunction with the punching tool (11) under microprocessor control to facilitate tool stripping. The stripper assembly (42-48) can also be used for automatic measuring of work sheet thickness.

    • A horizontal hydraulic forging press has counter-acting forging pistons which are coupled so that the forging movements of the forging pistons are coupled together. The coupling is done by each forging piston having a step and a rearwardly-extending shank, at least two coupling-cylinder units being connected to each shank. For each shank, at least one piston-cylinder unit increases in volume and at least one piston-cylinder unit decreases in volume as the forging pistons make a forging stroke. The piston-cylinder unit which increases in volume is connected to a piston-cylinder unit which decreases in volume and is associated with the other piston, and vice versa, in order to obtain proper coupling.
