    • A baler for compacting fibrous materials or other compactable materials having a platen operable by two compression devices. One compression device is at least one hydraulic cylinder with a piston rod attached to the platen which performs compaction. The other compression device is at least one hydraulic cylinder with a piston rod which is attached to the platen and performs tramping. The apparatus provides rapid tramping before compaction by the selective activation of only the second compression device. Both cylinders function through a common hydraulic fluid reservoir and solenoid valve.

    • A paper sample press has a drawer slidably mounted on a base. A plurality of generally vertical guide posts are mounted on the base on opposed sides of the drawer. The drawer has a lower platen mounted thereon for supporting a stack of paper samples. The drawer is slidable on the base from a retracted position between the guide posts to an extended position wherein the lower platen is extended out from between the guide posts, and returnably slidable on the base from the extended position to the retracted position. A vertically selectively actuable press cover is vertically mounted on a piston above the lower platen when the drawer is in the retracted position. The piston is selectively actuable so as to selectively lower and elevate the press cover between a raised position and a lowered paper sample engaging position. The paper sample press has piston support and a selective actuation device for supporting and selectively actuating the piston vertically over the lower platen so as to vertically selectively translate the press cover along a vertical press axis aligned with the lower platen between the raised position and the lowered paper sample engaging position. The piston support and selective actuation means is mounted on the guide posts. A constant compression device is provided for applying a generally constant compression pressure along the vertical press axis to a stack of paper samples placed on the lower platen when the drawer is in the retracted position and the press cover is in the lowered paper sample engaging position.

    • It is possible for the present invention to operate with the optimal control to prevent a ram from overshooting in a case that a load acting on the ram is decreasing rapidly, like a stamping machining process. Linking a hydraulic circuit which consists of a hydraulic pump 3 and a hydraulic cylinder 2 to make the ram 1 for the hydraulic press equipment move upward and downward and a full-bridge hydraulic circuit with four proportional sheet valves V1 through V4, the working timings of the proportional sheet valves V1 through V4 are controlled by a NC controller 9. In the normal operation, operating the proportional sheet valves V2 and V3 with the turn-on-off control system and with the meter out control system, oil pressure PU acting on the upper chamber 2U of the hydraulic cylinder 2, driving the ram 1 by the piston 10 moving downward, a work is stamped out. The NC controller 9 detects the running by inertia of the ram 1 in the instance of having stamped out a work in the stamping out machining process. As soon as the NC controller 9 detects the rapidly large speed fluctuation by a speed detecting sensor, the NC controller 9 commands the pilot valve 8 of the proportional sheet valve V1 in order to prevent the running by inertia of the ram 1 by controlling the back pressure PL of the lower chamber 2L of the hydraulic cylinder.

    • A metal shavings and chips compactor for extruding oil from metal chips and shavings and compacting the metal into easily transportable pellets. A compactor cylinder contains a piston and has an opening through which an auger feeds metal chips and shavings. A gate doses an end of the cylinder. A first hydraulic drive drives the piston under low pressure to close the opening and apply a first compacting pressure on the metal to form a loosely compacted pellet in the cylinder. High pressure then operates the piston to form a compact metal pellet substantially void of interstices. A second hydraulic drive opens the gate; the piston is operated at low pressure to discharge the compact metal pellet from the chamber and oil is collected below the cylinder. The compacting pressures are achieved through mechanical advantages provided by the size of the piston to that of the first hydraulic drive. A microprocessor controls operation of the compactor, and sensors detect the completion of the several operations to operate the microprocessor to control the hydraulic system and the thickness of the pellet produced.
