    • An engine which employs a cam follower mechanism to reduce wear and reduce the size of an assembled engine. The cam follower mechanism utilizes guide rails located to reduce side thrust on the valve stem. The engine employs a high speed quill shaft to synchronize independent cam shafts existing in each of a plurality of interconnected engines. The engine is assembled using a single size fastener to provide a uniform stress gradient within the engine. The engines are interconnected utilizing O-ring seals. The engine provides a piston crown utilizing a connecting rod directly connected to the bottom surface of the piston crown. The piston crown is stabilized along the longitudinal cylinder axis by a rail guide. Connecting rods are provided which require less than one hundred eighty degrees (180.degree.) circumference of a crankshaft pin for support so that a plurality of connecting rods can be associated with a single crankshaft pin. A tabbed bearing fits under the plurality of connecting rods to provide lubrication between the connecting rods and the crankshaft pin. Connecting rods are held to the crankshaft pin by a circular retaining ring. The engine provides a separate cylinder head and cylinder which are attached via a circular deformable retaining band to form a metal to metal seal. The engine provides an independent lubrication system in each engine. Coolant or lubricant is provided to each engine in parallel so that the temperature of the coolant entering each engine is the same. A large diameter modular crankshaft is provided.

    • A low cost multi cylinder radial aircraft engine is composed of an even number of individually functional, single cylinder slider crank model engines. They are mounted to a plate to form equally spaced radially oriented cylinders. In the preferred embodiment, use of standard, low cost, & mass produced two cycles engines are used. This in conjunction with a novel exhaust muffler and throttle mechanism results in a low cost radial engine. The individual engine shafts surround and are parallel to a central output shaft. Pinion gears on each shaft transfer power to a larger sun gear on the output shaft. This gearing synchronizes opposed pistons to reach top dead center at the same time resulting in vibration free piston motion and perfect balance of the entire engine. Said gearing also provides speed reduction for use of large diameter scale propellers. A rear mounted throttle mechanism controls individual carburetor throttles. Each cylinder radially exhausts into a donut shaped exhaust manifold that also serves as a muffler at the front of the engine. It very effectively lowers cylinder exhaust noise by using opposed flow impingement. The muffler also utilizes turbulent gas cooling to greatly reduce exhaust gas temperature and energy. This results in very low noise like its 4 cycle competitor.

    • A vehicle mounted engine generator system is disclosed for supplying electricity to external electrical appliances and equipment used inside a camping car or outdoors in the camping site, which comprises a secondary water-cooled internal combustion engine of relatively small size and an engine generator electrically connected to the engine. The secondary engine has its cooling jacket connected to a cooling line supplying it with cooling water for engine cooling. Also, the cooling line is connected to a radiator connected to the main internal combustion engine of water-cooled type so that the heated cooling water through the secondary engine is cooled by the same radiator as for the main engine. Also, the secondary engine is electrically connected to the battery for the main engine in such a manner that the battery can be recharged from the secondary engine as well.

    • An internal combustion engine and vehicle drive assembly including two separate engines connected together with an accessory drive output through an intermediate housing supporting the engines in a connected relationship. The intermediate housing supports and aligns the engines while providing for the mounting of a coupling output shaft underneath and lateral to connected crankshafts of the separate engines. A splined coupling member connecting the respective crankshafts within the intermediate housing includes means for providing the drive output driving engine accessories which can be mounted upon the intermediate housing. This arrangement accommodates the use of a single water pump and oil pump in conjunction with a single oil sump to respectively cool and lubricate the connected engines.
