    • A machining waste metal recycling machine has an in-feed hopper. The hopper uses paired augers to move the waste metal through the hopper to a cutting and transporting auger. The hopper augers are powered independently from each other, and may be individually reversed or reversed as a group to clear jams. In the event a jam is not cleared through one or more reversal cycles, the remaining augers may be operated to clear the hopper, thereby avoiding the need for manual unloading. Within the hopper are one or more shear bars that are provided to sever bunches or bundles of machining waste and thereby clear tangles which might otherwise jam the augers. The cutting and transporting augers ultimately feed a reciprocating compactor having a movable gate with one or more grooves for controlled drainage of machining oil and other liquid, as the machining waste metal is compressed into pellets.

    • The material compactor generally includes a feed apparatus and a final compaction apparatus. The final compaction apparatus generally includes a compaction chamber having confronting compression plates and an adjustably taperable portion. The area of the inner cavity of the final compaction chamber can be adjusted to become measurably smaller (tapered) or larger at the opened discharge or expelling end. Consequently, compacting movement of the material within the compaction chamber and through the chamber significantly subjects the material to restrictive compacting pressure which in turn compacts the material and performs liquid separation with each operationally continuous movement through the final compaction apparatus and out an open discharge port.

    • A metal shavings and chips compactor for extruding oil from metal chips and shavings and compacting the metal into easily transportable pellets. A compactor cylinder contains a piston and has an opening through which an auger feeds metal chips and shavings. A gate closes an end of the cylinder. A first hydraulic drive drives the piston under low pressure to close the opening and apply a first compacting pressure on the metal to form a loosely compacted pellet in the cylinder. High pressure then operates the piston to form a compact metal pellet substantially void of interstices. A second hydraulic drive opens the gate; the piston is operated at low pressure to discharge the compact metal pellet from the chamber and oil is collected below the cylinder. The compacting pressures are achieved through mechanical advantages provided by the size of the piston to that of the first hydraulic drive. A microprocessor controls operation of the compactor, and sensors detect the completion of the several operations to operate the microprocessor to control the hydraulic system and the thickness of the pellet produced.

    • Apparatus for use in economically profitable chopping of forest and bog stumps and of snags into transportable form in field conditions during all seasons. Chopping is effected by applying pressure which breaks the wood material charge that has been brought in one way or another into the space defined by a main blade and intermediate blades and by a backing plane and bottom. The stumps and snags in arbitrary positions are placed in such position with reference to the blades in connection with the pressing motion that the part of the wood material charge that has been cut off by the blades is able to evade the wedging pressure exerted by the sides of the blades, by sliding into a space which is more free, suffering rupture in the direction of the grain and being urged in chopped condition through the part constituted by the blades into the opening space.

    • A relatively thin briquetting chamber having a filter screen along at least one wall thereof, openable ends, a piston movable through said chamber from one end to the other to squeeze liquid from solid particles collected on the screen in said chamber and form a briquette, and an opening in the chamber for introducing the liquid and solid particles into the chamber. The chamber is so designed that no point inside the chamber is more than about three inches from a filter screen wall. This chamber may comprise a flat rectangular parallelepiped having openable ends, a bottom screen wall, a pair of side walls along the longitudinal edges of the bottom wall, and a top wall having an opening therein for introducing the liquid and solid particles, which if in the form of a sludge, this opening has to have a minimum dimension of at least six inches. The rectangular ends of this chamber, which usually have a width of at least twice that of their height, have an openable gate at one end thereof and a rectangular piston at the other end adjacent the opening in the top wall of the chamber. The separated liquid is collected outside the chamber and the openable gate permits discharge of the briquettes by the piston which forms them against the gate when closed. The piston and openable end may be operated mechanically by a crank, screw, or fluid cylinder; and pressure, limit, and/or timer switches may be provided for automatically initiating and controlling the briquette formation cycle.
