摘要： The major portion of a flame which ejects from a swirl chamber by way of a transfer passage, is subject to first and second deflections. The first occurs close to TDC, the second after the piston has decended a predetermined amount. A minor portion of the flame which tends to flow in a direction essentially the reverse of the main one, encounters a curved deflection wall portion and is thereafter subject to guidance by guide members which induce the flame to blend with the air located proximate the location of the transfer passage opens into the combustion chamber. A variation of the basic arrangement includes the provision of a squish generating projection which promotes suitable mixing turbulence near the curved deflection wall portion.

摘要： A diesel engine (10) has a pre-combustion chamber (30) with an angled and tapered transfer passage (60) leading to the main combustion chamber (44). The transfer passage (60) is tapered to provide a larger lower end (62) facing the main chamber (44) and smaller upper end (64) facing the pre-combustion chamber (30). Air passing through the passage (60) during the compression stroke undergoes heating and swirling within the pre-combustion chamber. The piston has an upper surface (46) with recessed lobes (20) and (22) and recessed passage area (28). Each recessed lobe functions as a valve pocket for the respective intake valve (32) and exhaust valve (42). The valve pockets are deep enough to provide sufficient valve lifts to allow valve overlap periods comparable with spark ignition gasoline engines without interfering with the piston upper surface (46).

摘要： An internal combustion engine having intake and exhaust valves and a companion piston therefor in a cylinder block is proposed, the piston being provided with several depressions of varying depth and area and interconnected by a guide groove to control flow of the gaseous mixture from one depression to another. A first of the depressions in the piston is located at a distance from the longitudinal axis of the piston and one of the valves has a flat face which is substantially received in the depression. The other depression in the piston also has an axis that is spaced from the longitudinal axis of the piston with the guide groove which communicates with the first depression having a mouth that extends substantially tangentially into said second depression so that the vortex gaseous flow rotates approximately parallel to said piston top about the central longitudinal axis of the second depression toward the end of the compression stroke. It is also contemplated that the first depression can be disposed in the cylinder head with the inlet valve being received in the base of the depression. Several other embodiments are disclosed.

摘要： A direct injection diesel engine includes a piston having a reentrant cavity and a multi-hole fuel injection nozzle disposed on a center line of the cavity. The cavity is formed by a lip portion defining a smallest diameter at a position below a piston crown surface and a raised portion formed at a center of the bottom and shaped like a frustum of a cone. A conical surface of the raised portion is formed to have an angle pointing to a spray point of the fuel injection nozzle at a piston top dead center position. The height position of a top surface is substantially equal to the height position of the lip portion. This structure is to promote the oxidation of soot by utilizing the air in the central part of the cavity.
