    • According to a particular embodiment, an end treatment for a guardrail safety system includes a terminal portion of a guardrail beam comprising a downstream end and upstream end, a first tension cable coupled to an upstream end of the terminal portion. an extruder configured to receive at least a portion of the guardrail beam and at least a portion of the first tension cable, and a terminal support post installed adjacent the roadway at an upstream end of the terminal portion of the guardrail beam. The extruder includes a narrowing throat providing a channel in which at least a portion of the guardrail beam is disposed. The narrowing throat is configured to flatten the guardrail beam in response to a collision with a vehicle moving the extruder in a downstream direction along the guardrail beam. The terminal support post coupled to an upstream end of the first tension cable.

    • This invention pertains to a method and machine for slip forming concrete wall structures such as median barrier walls for highways. The slip form comprises a pair of opposite side walls each of which has a skirt member retractable and extensible relative to the lower portion thereof. A top wall separate from the side walls is mounted on the machine frame between the upper portions of the side walls, and each side wall and associated skirt member is movable as a unit relative to the top wall and each skirt member is independently movable relative to an associated side wall. The side walls are adjustably supported on the machine frame for adjustment laterally of the machine frame to accommodate top walls of varying widths and the top wall is verticaly adjustable relative to the machine frame independently of the side walls. Power means provide for a controlled relative movement of the side walls, skirt members and top wall and the relative arrangement of the side walls and top wall is such that a glare shield can be formed over any selected section of the barrier wall without interrupting the continuous advance of the machine in the forming of the barrier wall with linear and reversely curved sections.

    • Guardrail assembly is performed by a vehicle carrying an inventory of guardrail sections and guardrail support blocks. The vehicle moves along a series of prepositioned guardrail posts and includes a side-mounted support frame allowing joining of guardrail sections and deployment rearward of a continuous ribbon of joined guardrail sections. As the continuous ribbon of joined guardrail sections is deployed, it is urged laterally outward and against attachment sites of the series of prepositioned guardrail posts. The continuous ribbon is then attached to the guardrail post, including mounting of an intermediate support block. The assembly and mounting under the disclosed method and apparatus is approximately half that of conventional guardrail assembly and mounting.
