    • A rear wheel suspension system for vehicles includes a wheel carrier for rotatably supporting a wheel. The wheel carrier has upper, lower, front and rear ends. An upper control arm is provided to connect the upper end of the wheel carrier to a vehicle body, while a lower control arm is provided to connect the lower end of the wheel carrier to a vehicle body. The lower control arm includes front and rear control links, and a trailing arm is disposed in a longitudinal direction with respect to the vehicle body and connecting the front end of the wheel carrier to the vehicle body. When the wheel is aligned such that a toe angle of the wheel becomes “0”, the front control link and the trailing arm are aligned such that a longitudinal axis of the front control link of the lower control arm intersects a longitudinal axis of the trailing arm at a wheel center.

    • A wheel suspension for a motor vehicle having a vehicle chassis includes a wheel carrier having an axle for the support of a wheel for rotation independently of the wheel carrier, and front and rear arms for supporting the wheel carrier on the vehicle chassis and extending in spaced relation to each other with the space therebetween gradually increasing as they extend outwardly from the wheel carrier towards the vehicle chassis in a direction generally transversely of the vehicle chassis. The wheel suspension further includes a connecting member for elastically connecting the wheel carrier to the vehicle chassis for displacement in a direction generally perpendicular to the widthwise direction of the vehicle chassis, and a shock absorber for absorbing vibrations of the wheel carrier. The front and rear arms are so positioned relative to the wheel carrier and the vehicle chassis that the wheel carrier can be moved such that the toe-in of the wheel supported thereby is increased.

    • An adjustable mounting assembly for a steerable wheel assembly. A cam member is rotatably disposed within a recess formed in the lower arm of a yoke assembly. An eccentric cylinder of the cam member extends within a vertically oriented slot formed in a ball joint forging which is in turn adjustable secured to the lower arm of the yoke. By simply rotating the cam member, the eccentric cylinder engages the slot and moves the ball joint forging in a horizontal direction to adjust the caster of the wheel assembly. The vertical slot in the ball joint forging prevents vertical movement to facilitate adjustment of the caster without affecting a camber setting, the distance between the upper and lower ball joints, or ball joint pre-loading. Horizontal slots are formed in the lower arm to align with boltholes formed in the ball joint forging to allow the forging to be bolted to the lower arm over a range of horizontal positions. A method of adjusting the camber of the wheel assembly is also disclosed.

    • An axle and suspension assembly for mounting two unsteerable wheels of a motor vehicle comprises a crosspiece secured by means of elastic mounting bodies to a rigid structure of the vehicle. The mounting bodies have different stiffnesses in different directions in a generally horizontal plane. Two wheel carriers are linked to the crosspiece by means of two lower transverse control arms arranged at acute angles to each other, and, in addition, each wheel carrier is connected to the rigid structure by a longitudinal control arm. The crosspiece is also connected to the rigid structure of the vehicle by two diagonal struts.

    • A stabilizer for a vehicle suspension has a central rod portion supported so as to be rotatable about its own axis by the vehicle body. An arm portion is coupled to a shock absorber by a connecting link at one end pivotally attached to the end of the arm portion and at the other end pivotally connected to the shock absorber. The pivot point between the arm portion and the connecting link is positioned below the pivot point of the shock absorber and the connecting link and is positioned on the opposite side of the axis of the shock absorber relative to the central rod portion when the vehicle wheel is in a neutral position. The pivot point between the arm portion and the connecting link moves along a locus which has a region such that the minimum distance from the pivot point to the axis of the shock absorber decreases with an increase in the vertical displacement of the vehicle wheel from the neutral position.

    • A vehicle rear suspension mechanism capable of producing a toe-in displacement under a side force, a brake force, an engine brake force and an engine drive force to obtain a stabilized steering property. The mechanism includes a suspension member connected with a vehicle body, a wheel hub supporting a rear wheel for rotation about a rotating axis, a connecting device for connecting the wheel hub with the suspension member. The connecting device includes a ball joint connecting the wheel hub to the suspension member pivotably about the joint center. The ball joint is located in one of four quadrants defined in a rectangular coordinate system having its origin on the rotatable axis of the rear wheel. The device also includes a first resilient bushing located between the wheel hub and the suspension member in one of the three remaining unoccupied quadrants and a second resilient bushing located between the wheel hub and the suspension member in one of the two remaining unoccupied quadrants. In certain embodiments, the first and second bushings are of unequal relative rigidity. In still other embodiments, each of the first and second bushings include stoppers to restrict either forward or rearward movement of the wheel hub.
