摘要： A spinneret assembly for spinning polymeric fibers, including: (a) a cap provided with an inlet port and a flared lower surface that flares outwardly from the inlet port in the direction of flow; (b) a spinneret having numerous spinning flow channels through its thickness; (c) a filter freely resting on the spinneret; and (d) a flow guide with a tapered geometry mounted in a cavity defined by the cap and the spinneret. The flow guide has an apex facing the inlet port, a base facing the filter, and one or more side surfaces tapering up to the apex. A diverging flow passage is defined by the tapering side surface(s) of the flow guide and the cap's flared lower surface. The base of the flow guide is spaced apart from an upper surface of the spinneret, creating a space that is in fluid communication with the divergent flow passage.

摘要： A melt blowing die includes a stack of plates including corresponding melt blowing die tip, die body and air functionalities. One or more rows of polymer filament extrusion orifices extend through in a stack direction across multiple plates of a stack. A gas distribution system within the stack has gas outlets are positioned to provide distributed gas flow to contact and attenuate extruded polymer filaments. One of more polymer distribution channels extend longitudinally through multiple plates in the stack direction to supply polymer to each of the rows of extrusion orifices. A polymer distribution channel is open to receive polymer feed only at a longitudinal end. A melt blowing apparatus has a collection substrate movable in a machine direction that is transverse to a stack direction in a melt blowing die. A method for producing fiber-containing material includes melt blowing using a melt blowing die with a stack of plates.

摘要： A method for forming a liquid crystalline thermoplastic composition is provided. The method comprises blending at least one thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer and a plurality of fibers within an extruder. The extruder contains at least one rotatable screw received within a barrel (e.g., cylindrical barrel) and defines a feed section and a melting section located downstream from the feed section along the length of the screw. Relatively long fibers are initially supplied to the feed section of the extruder, but at a location downstream from the liquid crystalline polymer so that the polymer is still in a solid state when it initially contacts the fibers. In this manner, the present inventors have discovered that the polymer can act as an abrasive agent for reducing the length of the fibers.

摘要： A continuous extrusion process for the functionalization of polymers through reactive extrusion. The process uses a continuous extrusion reactor comprising at least two sequential, very closely-coupled, independently driven screw extruders having a total effective length to diameter ratio greater than 60 to 1 and as high as 112 to 1 and providing greatly extended reaction times for efficiently producing a grafted polymer having a high level of functionalization. Drying of the polymer feed is performed in the continuous extrusion reactor. Multiple injections of reactants may be provided. Shear modification of the molecular weight of the grafted polymer is performed in the continuous extrusion reactor after the functionalization reactions. A continuous extrusion reactor and a grafted polymer having a high level of functionalization are also disclosed.
