    • A pop-up sprinkler unit includes an outer cylindrical fixed housing for subsurface mounting, with a riser reciprocally mounted in a central bore of the housing for extending up through a portion of the soil. A radially retractable and expandable resilient plastic containment ring is mounted at an outlet end of the housing and engages an annular inner shoulder of the housing for retaining a coil spring and the riser in the bore. The containment ring is split to enable expansion and retraction. It has a first height throughout a first portion of its circumference and a second lower height throughout a second portion of its circumference to enable overlap during insertion of the ring into the upper end of the fixed housing. This configuration eliminates a gap at the split when the ring is in its retaining position, thereby preventing debris from entering the bore of the housing and preventing complete extension and/or retraction of the riser.

    • A cleaning cycle generator for an irrigation system having a programmable irrigation controller. When the irrigation controller terminates an on cycle, the cleaning cycle generator of the present invention will initiate a time delay after which it will turn the sprinklers completely on for a timed period. The sprinklers will then be turned off to complete the remainder of the off cycle. The present invention is particularly advantageous in pressure regulated irrigation valves where particles in the water can become trapped between valve seat surfaces that are in close proximity due to the pressure regulation. Leaking throughout the lengthy off cycle of the irrigation system is prevented by flushing out particles while the valve is in the completely open, unregulated state.

    • An actuator for a spray valve is provided which includes an actuator head and spray producing body positioned within the head. The actuator head includes a mechanism for connecting the head to a spray valve and transfer channel for receiving a pressurized fluid from the spray valve. The transfer channel is formed with a terminal area surrounding an outlet orifice of the channel. The spray producing body is positioned against the terminal area and has a front wall distant therefrom. The spray producing body features a swirl chamber situated adjacent the outlet orifice, a first channel downstream from the swirl chamber, a second channel of narrower diameter and downstream from the first channel, an expansion orifice situated further downstream and at least four unconnected dead-ended recesses formed into the front wall and surrounding the expansion orifice.

    • A hand holdable spray delivery system for dispensing a fluid is provided. This spray delivery system includes a container adapted to house the fluid. The fluid being relatively viscous and preferably also being solids laden. A manually actuated pump device is mounted on the container. The pump device including an inlet passage, a pump chamber, and a discharge passage having a distal end connected in fluid communication so that the fluid is pumped from within the container, through the inlet passage, into the pump chamber and through the discharge passage upon manual actuation of the pump device. A spray nozzle including a housing having an inlet side and an exit side is also included. The housing having an internal recess through the inlet side that terminates in an elongated orifice at the exit side. The internal recess being attached in fluid communication to the distal end of the discharge passage such that the fluid passing through the discharge passage flows through the spray nozzle and converges toward the elongated orifice. The fluid being dispensed therefrom in a fan spray pattern. Several versions of the spray delivery system are illustrated, including a trigger operated sprayer and a reciprocating finger pump.

A pair of adjacent flow detector electrodes extend through an upper portion of the secondary feeder tube near the top of the loop on the downward flow side, and electrical means detects the presence or absence of electron flow between each pair of electrodes.

    • A miniature irrigation water spray fitting includes a body part having a top and a bottom and with an inlet for receiving longitudinal flow of water from the bottom. The body part also includes a depending skirt between the top and the bottom extending generally radial to the flow of water through the inlet. The cap part is threaded onto the top of the body part and has a depending edge engaging the skirt of the body part when the cap part is screwed fully home, the cap part having an outer peripheral gripping edge. One of the body or cap parts has plural radial grooves extending along the respective skirt or depending edge to permit the radial flow of water from the fitting. The cap part gripping edge permits a field worker to quickly clear any clogging of the grooves by rotating the cap part a half turn or so, and thereafter quickly rotating the cap part fully home again.
