    • A fluid pressure control system for automatic power transmissions including a source of fluid providing a controlled line pressure, a manual valve movable to a number of positions including range P (parking), range R (reverse), range N (neutral), range "3", range "2" and range "1" in the order mentioned for setting the transmission in a desired operational range and provided with at least three spaced lands. A unitary, first pressure regulator valve is provided which has at least two spaced valve lands and a fluid passage interconnecting the unitary, first pressure regulator valve and the manual valve. The fluid passage communicates with a fluid chamber provided between the valve lands of the unitary first pressure regulator valve. In the range P, one of the valve lands of the manual valve is adapted to cut the line pressure. In the range R, the aforementioned fluid passage is blocked by another of the valve lands of the manual valve. The fluid passage communicates with a fluid chamber provided between valve lands of the manual valve in the ranges of N, D, "3", "2" and "1".

    • A transmission control device according to the present invention comprises a main transmission having a torque converting device provided with a direct clutch for effecting engagement and disengagement of the input member with output member of a torque converting portion; a sub transmission having a speed change mechanism; a drive-mode detecting means for detecting the drive mode of the speed change mechanism of the sub transmission; and a controller for controlling the lock-up characteristics of the direct clutch by means of the output of the drive mode detecting means.The transmission control device is capable of setting the lock-up characteristics of the direct clutch in accordance with the speed mode of the sub transmission by effecting a change-over of the lock-up characteristics of the direct clutch of the torque converting device on the basis of the output of the drive-mode detecting means for detecting the speed mode of the sub transmission, so that it is possible to optimize the power performance, operating performance, and fuel consumption in accordance with the speed mode of the sub transmission.

    • A lubricating system for a transmission of the kind having a driving shaft driven to rotate, a transmission shaft disposed parallel to the driving shaft, a chain for transmitting power from the driving shaft to the transmission shaft and a chain case enclosing the chain, the lubricating system comprising a chain chamber and an oil reservoir chamber in the chain case, the oil reservoir chamber having an upper inlet port for receiving oil from the chain chamber, at least some of the oil in the chain chamber being driven to reach the inlet port by movement of the chain, and the oil reservoir chamber having a lower outlet port for returning oil to the chain chamber, whereby oil flowing through the oil reservoir chamber may be cooled and the amount of oil in the chain chamber subject to agitation by the chain movement at any one time may be reduced, substantially prolonging the operational life of the lubricating oil. When the transmission is further provided with a support part for the transmission shaft and a rotatable bearing assembly disposed between the support part and the transmission shaft, the lubricating system may further comprise the support part having a passage therein forming part of a flow path along which oil moves from an upper part of the oil reservoir to a lower part of the oil reservoir, the rotatable bearing assembly being disposed adjacent one end of the passage, whereby the rotatable bearing assembly is continuously lubricated by oil flowing through the oil reservoir.
