摘要： Silane-functionalized ultraviolet screening agent precursors comprise compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is ##STR2## R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkanoyl, R.sup.3 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxyl, X is 0,1 or 2, y is 1,2, or 3 and x+y=3. Under ultraviolet radiation the compounds rearrange to the corresponding .alpha.-hydroxybenzophenones which protect substrates, especially transparent plastics, against degradation.

In particular, there is utilized a novel end-capping catalyst alone or with a co-catalyst to form a poly-alkoxy terminated diorganopolysiloxane polymer. Such a polymer is formed by reacting a silanol terminal diorganopolysiloxane, either with a polyalkoxy containing silazane cross-linking agent or an integrated cross-linker, scavenger in the presence of the end-capping catalyst.
