摘要： Compounds of formula A(B).sub.x, (I), wherein x is an integer from 1 to 4, A is the radical of a chromophore of the quinacridone, anthraquinone, perylene, indigo, quinophthalone, isoindolinone, isoindoline, dioxazine, phthalocyanine or azo series, which radical contains x N-atoms attached to B, preferably with at least one directly adjacent or conjugated carbonyl group, B is a group of formula ##STR1## and, if x is 2, 3 or 4, may also be one, two or three hydrogen atoms. The symbols Q, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, X, Y, Z, m und n, are as defined in claim 1. These carbamate group-containing soluble chromophores are distinguished by outstanding solid state fluorescence in the UV range as well as the by ease with which they can be converted to the corresponding pigments in the substrate in which they are incorporated.

摘要： The present liquid crystal composition is characterized by containing a dye of anthraquinone series represented by the following general formula (1) dissolved as a guest in a host liquid crystal: ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group or a cycloalkyl group. The alkyl group or the cycloalkyl group of the dye of anthraquinone series includes those substituted by alkyl, hydroxyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, aryl, aryloxy, dialkylamino, or heterocyclic residue. Furthermore, the liquid crystal composition can contain two or more other kinds of the dye of anthraquinone series, or can be used in combination with other dyes. In the dye of anthraquinone series, the group --COOR at the 2-position and the group --CN at the 3-position are particularly important for realization of cyan color and a high S value.The dye of anthraquinone series is particularly effective for preparation of a black dye.The present liquid crystal display device is characterized by comprising a liquid crystal cell comprising two transparent juxtaposed substrate plates, transparent electrodes formed each on the opposite inner surfaces of the substrate plates, alignment films formed each on the opposite inner surfaces of the substrate plates to cover the transparent electrodes and align liquid crystal molecules, sealing members for keeping the two substrate plates at a predetermined distance, a liquid crystal composition containing the dye represented by the said general formula (1) being filled in the liquid crystal cell, and a light source being provided outside the liquid crystal cell.

摘要： A composition for use in an electro-optical device, particularly a display device, contains anthraquinone pleochroic dye of formula (I): ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is a substituted or unsubstituted amino group or a hydroxy group; each of R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, which are identical or different, is a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted amino group, a hydroxy group or a nitro group; R is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a hydroxy, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy group; n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, the Rs being identical or different when n is 2, 3 or 4; X is a hydrogen or halogen atom, a hydroxy or mercapto group, a straight, branched or cyclic C.sub.1-16 alkyl radical, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group or a group of formula ##STR2## where R' is a hydrogen atom or a straight, branched or cyclic C.sub.1-10 alkyl residue, and Y is a hydrogen atom or a side chain of the formula: ##STR3## where X', R" and n' have the same definitions as and are respectively identical to or different from X, R and n, the side chain being in position 6 when the compound is substituted in position 2 and in position 7 when it is substituted in position 3.Compounds of formula (I) have a high order parameter and are very stable.
