    • An embroidering position setting device and method of operation thereof for an embroidering sewing machine are described. The embroidering sewing machine is capable of storing pattern data in a memory for a plurality of embroidery patterns which can be selectively read out to operate a stitch forming device to form the stitches of a selected pattern or patterns on a cloth to be stitched. An embroidering frame has a cloth extended thereon to be embroidered and is connected to an X-Y drive mechanism, said cloth having a mark located at an optional position for representing a reference embroidering position of the cloth. Jog keys are selectively operated to operate said X-Y drive mechanism thereby to shift said embroidering frame so that said reference embroidering position mark of the cloth may be located at the position under said machine needle in vertical alignment therewith. The position register key is operated to store said position of the reference embroidering position mark in an embroidering position memory as the reference embroidering position data. This position of the reference embroidering position mark is indicated together with crossed lines on a display which is operative in response to operation of said position register key. A pattern selecting device is then operated to select at least one of the embroidery patterns from said pattern memory, said selected embroidery pattern being stored in a memory (RAM) and being simultaneously indicated on said display with the center thereof being located at the center of said crossed lines.

    • An original picture pattern to be produced with an embroidering machine may be seen through a transparent touch panel of an input device detachably connected to the embroidering machine. By simply tracing the coutour lines of the pattern with a stylus pen, the coordinates of substantially continuous points of the pattern may be inputted. A series of the coordinate data thus inputted is converted to another series of the coordinate data representing actual stitch points of a pattern to be produced on the fabric as a boldfaced duplicate of the original picture. Each line of the pattern may be boldfaced with zigzag stitches extending over a selectable amplitude or with multiplicated straightaway stitches formed by a repeated straight line producing operation.

    • Marks such as patterns, designs, numbers, or the like are cut out of a mark sheet or mark sheets placed on a glass base by a thermal cutter having a heated cutting bit. The thermal cutter is movable two-dimensionally over the mark sheet, and is also vertically movable between an upper position in which the thermal cutter is lifted off the mark sheet supported on the base and a lower position in which the thermal cutter is lowered in contact with the mark sheet supported on the base. The thermal cutter is angularly movably supported on an eccentric shaft that is rotatable by a stepping motor. The thermal cutter has a cutting bit resiliently urged by a spring for stable positioning. A range or ranges in which desired marks are to be cut out of a mark sheet or mark sheets can be confirmed by being traced by the thermal cutter before the marks are actually cut out. When mark numerals indicative of desired numbers are to be cut out, such mark numerals are rearranged and displayed for the operator's information. The thermal cutter can be cleaned by a cutter cleaner in a different cleaning pattern each time the thermal cutter has moved a predetermined distance in contact with the mark sheet or mark sheets. The thermal cutter moves to the cutter cleaner and also to a position to start cutting out desired marks, at a higher speed than the speed at which it cuts out the desired marks.
