    • A process is provided for the manufacture of radial tires for vehicle wheels, having an annular reinforcement structure inserted between the tread and the casing. The reinforcement structure has two layers of metal cord and in a radially outer position a third layer of cords arranged in a longitudinal direction. The third layer is made of a textile material which shrinks when heated. The process comprises the steps of first shaping the vulcanized casing to form a toroid, then applying to the shaped casing the two layers of metal cords together with a portion of the layer of textile cords at each side zone of the reinforcement structure. The width of the side zone is between 1/3 and 1/10 of the total width of the structure. The casing is shaped a second time to increase the external equatorial development thereof to a value greater than that reached during the first shaping step. The remaining central portion of the layer of textile cord is then applied on top of the layers of metal cords. A band of elastomeric material, forming the tread of the carcass is disposed on top of the layer of textile cords. The structure is then expanded and vulcanized in a pressurized mold.

    • A tread for motor vehicle tires having circumferential grooves (3) and transverse grooves (4), a plurality of tread blocks (5, 6) circumferentially spaced apart to form two shoulder rows (5) and at least one central row (6) located between the shoulder rows. Each block (5, 6) is provided with one or more sipes or slits (11, 12) that are rectilinear and inclined with respect to the axis of rotation of the tire (2). The sipes (11, 12) of the blocks (5, 6) which constitute each of the shoulder and central rows are parallel to one another. The sipes (12) of the central rows (6) have an inclination, with respect to the axis of rotation, that is greater than the inclination of the sipes (11) of the blocks (6) which constitute the shoulder rows. This arrangement of the sipes (11, 12) substantially reduces the rolling noise of the tire.

    • A tire for a wheel of a vehicle includes a casing structure, a belt structure, and a tread band. A tread band pattern includes a central zone, two intermediate zones, and two shoulder zones. Each of the zones extends between planes that are substantially parallel to an equatorial plane of the tire. Each intermediate zone includes first and second sequences of pairs of transversal grooves. The first sequence pairs are alternated with the second sequence pairs. The grooves of the two sequences are inclined relative to each other. The first sequence grooves extend from first ends, at respective axially intermediate planes, to second ends, at predetermined first distances from selected second sequence grooves. The second sequence grooves extend from third ends, at respective axially inner planes, to fourth ends, at predetermined second distances from selected first sequence grooves. Intermediate zones include a zigzag rib. Shoulder zones include additional transversal grooves.

    • A method of manufacturing tires includes making a plurality of structural components for tires, assembling the components following a pre-established sequence at respective work stations disposed along a manufacturing line, transferring the tires to a curing line, and curing the tires in respective vulcanization molds. The tires are sequentially transferred along the manufacturing line from a first work station to successive work stations. At least one series of tires is simultaneously processed on the manufacturing line and the curing line, and the at least one series of tires includes at least one first tire model and at least one second tire model different from the at least one first tire model. The tires are transferred from the manufacturing line to the curing line at a same rate as the tires are sequentially transferred along the manufacturing line from the first work station to the successive work stations.

Such method is carried out by using a sail (1) provided with at least one batten (10) comprising a fluid impervious wrapping (31) adapted to be inflated by a fluid under pressure and a reinforcing structure (33) associated externally with said wrapping (31) and comprising a plurality of reinforcing thread-like elements (34a, 34b) arranged crossed with an angle comprised between about 65° and about 115°.

    • A method for determining the force at the hub of a wheel of a vehicle while traveling. The wheel includes a rim and at least one deformation sensor directly associated with the rim in at least one predetermined position and arranged according to at least one predetermined orientation. The method includes the steps of detecting at least one deformation component of the rim during travel through the at least one deformation sensor; applying to the at least one deformation component, during travel, a correlation parameter characteristic of the rim, between the force at the hub and the relative deformation of the rim to determine at least one force component at the hub correlated with the at least one deformation component of the rim. The determining of the correlation parameter preferably takes place through experimental tests that include the steps of providing a sample wheel having a rim substantially the same as that of the wheel and determining at least one correlation coefficient between at least one force component acting upon the sample wheel at the hub along at least one predetermined direction and at least one respective deformation component of the rim of the wheel.
