    • A seat slide rail structure comprising a lower rail having a channel member with a C-shaped cross-section fixedly attached to a floor and having an open side end; a slider, fixedly secured to a seat, having a vertical portion opposing the open side end and combined with the lower rail in axially slidable manner; a lock member rotatably supported by the slider and adapted to be rotated by actuating means; a lower member depending from the lower rail; and a slider extension bent from a lower end of the slider so as to oppose both surfaces of the lower member may engage each other even when a high lateral load is applied to the seat slide rail structure. A seat slide rail device typically comprises a master and a slave seat slide rail structure, and the former has lock teeth which can selectively engage with lock holes of the lower rail by a manual actuating means while the latter has lock teeth which synchronize with the other lock teeth and selectively engage with lock holes of the lower rail of the slave seat slide rail structure. In order to assure full engagement of the slave lock teeth with the corresponding lock holes, the slave lock teeth are provided with tapers which are greater than those of the master lock teeth, and/or the slave lock member is axially slidable so that any misalignment between the lock teeth and the lock holes may be accommodated.

    • Disclosed is a seat belt forwarding device for facilitating the fastening of a seat belt by rotating a rotary arm in a forward direction, in conjunction with a walk-in type seat, comprising, a rotary unit for forwardly rotating the rotary arm in response to a closing action of a door and backwardly rotating the rotary arm in response to an opening action of the door and cam means for controlling the backwardly inclined position of the rotary arm in such a manner that the rotary arm may be positioned along a seat back when the seat back is in its upright position and substantially along a floor behind the seat when the seat back is in its forwardly inclined position. Thereby, when the seat back is inclined forwardly, the rotary arm will not obstruct the access to the rear seat, and, when the seat back is upright, the rotary arm aligns along the seat back, and the rotary arm will not impair the comfort of the rear seat.

    • A lock structure for a seat slide device for a vehicle seat having a first and a second rail which are parallel to each other and mutually slidable, and in particular to such a lock device which can lock up at any slide position. This can be accomplished by varying the pitch of the lock holes and the lock teeth from each other as opposed to the case of conventional lock structures in which lock teeth and lock holes are provided at the same pitch. The various approaches proposed by the present application include the use of the principle of a vernier caliper, varying the phase relationship of the lock teeth relative to the lock holes, and using evenly spaced lock teeth in combination with lock holes provided at a pitch which is a multiple of the pitch of the lock teeth. Since the seat slide device can lock up at any arbitrary slide position, not only the adjustment of seat slide position is facilitated but also secure locking will be assured when it is used in a slave seat slide device which is to be actuated at the same time as a master seat device without unduly increasing the rigidity of the general seat support structure.

    • A pedestrian bumper system and method can include an attachment bumper and an attachment bracket for connecting the attachment bumper to the existing vehicle bumper or existing vehicle frame. The attachment bumper can be configured to conform to the existing vehicle bumper such that the frontal crash mode of the vehicle is substantially unchanged. In addition, the attachment bumper can create a new front surface area that includes an area that is lower than the front area of the existing vehicle bumper. Thus, the bumper system can be configured to contact a pedestrian at a lower location to minimize injury during an accident. The bumper system can also be configured to be easily adapted to existing vehicles by either the consumer or the vehicle manufacturer to take advantage of easily modifying vehicles for different market and/or consumer requirements and tastes.

    • A seat belt retractor system comprising a seat belt retractor unit having a winding spool for winding a seat belt thereon, and a seat belt tightening unit for tightening the seat belt upon detection of occurrence of a vehicle crash. The seat belt tightening unit is placed lower than the seat belt retractor unit, for instance, one on top of a floor tunnel and the other on a side wall of the floor tunnel, whereby the seat belt can be favorably passed closely across the waist and the shoulder of the vehicle occupant and a favorable occupant restraining capability of the seat belt is ensured. If the seat belt tightening unit uses an explosive propellant, it may be placed externally of the passenger compartment, for instance on the external wall surface of the floor tunnel, so as to eliminate any ill effects, such as explosive sound and combustion gas, which may be produced as a result of the combustion of the propellant.
