    • A system for automatically loading and tensioning a supply reel of magnetic recording which is contained in a tape cassette. The system is designed to be utilized with a tape transport mechanism of the type wherein the supply reel is driven by surface engagement of the outermost layer of tape on the reel with a capstan. A motor driven leadscrew mechanically engages the tape transport apparatus and functions as a means for sequencing its operation in a manner so that upon loading, the normally-closed cassette is opened and the tape pack is advanced by the transport apparatus into an operative position in which it is in contact with the capstan. Following the threading of the tape about the take-up reel, the leadscrew causes the transport apparatus to withdraw the supply tape pack from close contact with the capstan in order to allow slack to be removed therefrom through the action of a brake upon the supply reel. The supply tape pack is then once again brought back into its operative position in contact with the capstan.

    • Method of and apparatus for operating a motor vehicle wherein a flywheel mass for eliminating or minimizing nonuniformity of rotational motion is engageable with and disengageable from a crankshaft for an internal-combustion engine which includes, in an operating condition when the motor vehicle is in motion but the engine does not drive the motor vehicle, including deceleration, braking and coasting, interrupting a driving connection between driving wheels of the motor vehicle and the engine while maintaining rotation of the engine at a nominal speed with the flywheel mass engaged therewith whereas, in a condition when the motor vehicle is briefly stopped, as at a traffic light, interrupting the driving connection between the driving wheels of the motor vehicle and the engine but disengaging the flywheel mass from the engine so that the flywheel mass continues to rotate and shutting down the engine and, for restarting the engine, reengaging the flywheel mass with the engine while maintaining the interruption of the driving connection between the vehicle driving wheels and the engine.

    • A clutch plate for use in the friction clutches of automotive vehicles has a rotary hub with two spaced-apart coaxial annular cheeks which flank the inner portion of an annular carrier for friction linings. The carrier can turn, within limits, relative to the cheeks against the opposition of coil springs which are inserted into registering windows provided therefor in the cheeks and in the carrier. A first friction generating unit operates continuously between the hub and the carrier, and such friction generating unit has two friction pads disposed at the opposite sides of the carrier immediately adjacent or close to the periphery of the hub, and a ring-shaped spring which reacts against one of the cheeks to urge one of the pads against the carrier which is movable axially to urge the other pad against the other cheek. A second friction generating unit surrounds the first unit and is designed to generate friction during certain stages of angular movement of the carrier relative to the cheeks or vice versa. The second unit has a ring-shaped friction generating component disposed at one side of the carrier and a resilient dished annular second component at the other side of the carrier. The latter has apertures for axially extending arms of the friction generating component, and such arms are engaged by the radially outermost portion of the second component.

    • The invention relates to a dropout compensator for a trisequential color video playback system which compensates for dropouts in color video signals with a high degree of accuracy. Only the color information including the Y low portion of the luminance signal is delayed for a period of substantially one line of video information after separation of the color information from the Y high portion of the luminance signal and after FM demodulation of the color information signals. In addition to the two conventional delay means, connected in series, present in a trisequential system and necessary for converting time-sequential occuring color signals into signals occurring at the same time, there is provided a third delay means for the compensation of dropouts. The output signal of the third delay means is switched by a switch means to the entrance of the first two delay means, the switch means being controlled by a detector means detecting a signal level decrease in the envelope of the FM signal when a dropout occurs.
