    • A magnetic tape cartridge includes a cartridge casing formed by upper and lower casing halves connected together, and a single reel around which a magnetic tape with a leader pin fixed to the leading end of the magnetic tape is wound and which is contained in the cartridge casing for rotation. The leader pin is removably held in a tape draw-out opening with its axial direction directed in the vertical direction under urging force of a spring member acting on its upper and lower end portions sideways with the upper and lower end portions received in recesses respectively formed in the upper and lower casing halves. An inclined surface directed obliquely downward is formed at least a part of the side wall of the recess formed in the upper casing half opposed to the direction in which the spring member urges the leader pin.

    • A container is used to hold and transport punched diskette media to prevent contamination of and damage to the media. The container includes an outer shell comprising a cover and a base formed of a durable, pre-formed material. The base has an inner surface having at least one protruding male structure suitable for receiving and mounting a first hollow portion of a spindle. The cover has a second inner surface having a recessed female structure suitable for receiving another portion of a spindle. In addition, a spindle mounting member designed to carry a plurality of punched diskette media is included in the container. The spindle mounting member is an elongate spindle with a hollowed end for placement on the protruding male structure in the base and an end suitable for placement within the recessed female structure in the cover. The spindle mounting member includes a circumferential or annular media holder suitable for supporting media placed on the spindle. A closure member securely closes the container. A handle is provided for carrying the container in a position which places the spindle in a horizontal plane so that the weight of the media is on the spindle during shipment.

    • A shock shield formed of an annular body having a central axial hole which mounts within a case is disclosed. A cylindrical axial ring is formed around the central axial hole. The shock shield permits a tape reel stored within the case to rotate within the case and absorbs shocks to prevent damage to the tape reel. A tab on the shield mates with the tape reel to prevent relative rotation therebetween. Shock absorption is accomplished by compressible elements formed on the shield body. The compressible elements are annular bearing rings concentric with the annular circumference. The annular bearing rings have a generally V-shaped cross section and an axial height less than the axial height of the axial ring. The shield body preferably is formed of four spaced radial members to enhance flexion.

    • A high impact strength protective seal for packaging reels of magnetic tape, cinematographic film or the like and for storing them in a suspension type storage cabinet has been developed. The seal is of a single piece design, i.e., a molded unitary locking mechanism and annular band, as opposed to the more conventional two piece design of sealing rings for tape reels of the prior art. The protective seal is prepared by injection molding the seal flat from a thermoplastic material. The design of the seal and its locking mechanism allows for the seal to be adjustable in order to accommodate variations in the take up on a particular reel or in variations from reel to reel.
