A determination is made whether to execute a backhitch operation in response to writing a data set to tape from the buffer. If not, a determination is made whether a transaction size at which data is transferred from the buffer to the tape is less than a buffer size. If so, then a determination is made of a a new speed and whether a current speed is different from the determined new speed. If so, then a backhitch is initiated.

摘要： A reel cover of a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus having an improved assembly construction with respect to a chassis and a method of manufacturing thereof provide a reel cover assembled with the chassis in a manner where a plurality of protrusions of a reel cover body are inserted in a plurality of recesses formed on the chassis. In this state, a resilient member formed at the reel cover body resiliently contacts a side surface of the chassis so that the protrusions are kept within the recesses. The reel cover can be assembled with the chassis in a simple manner without requiring extra securing means such as screws. Accordingly, the number of assembly parts can be decreased and the assembly procedure may be simplified, thereby productivity may be improved and manufacturing cost may be reduced.

In a fast feed mode and a rewind mode, the small diametered gear 38 is meshed with the drive gear 31 while the large diametered gear 39 is meshed with the intermediate gear 19.

During the actuation of a shifting lever, the system can be quickly restored to the play mode after the lock release by a solenoid regardless of the normal or reverse mode, and the structure of a cam gear for shifting the modes is simplified. Further, the branching cam 70 includes a third position for quickly shifting to the play mode, and a guide means 80 consists of a single independent cam regardless of the normal and reverse modes. Accordingly, the tape player can be shifted quickly to the play mode regardless of the normal and reverse modes. Therefore, the tape player can carry out the operation more efficiently, and the structure of the cam gear is simplified.

摘要： A system for providing stable tape-travel in a recording and/or reproducing apparatus includes a tape travel-direction switching mechanism and a tape tension regulating mechanism. The tape travel-direction switching mechanism forces a pendulum gear to engage one of a supply or take-up reel table when the traveling direction of tape is switched between forward and reverse directions while a capstan motor is turned off and a pinch roller presses the tape against the capstan so as to prevent the occurrence of slack in the tape. The tape tension regulating mechanism takes up the slack in the tape before a capstan axle causes the tape to travel in the reverse direction, so as to prevent the tape from being loosened when the traveling direction of the tape is switched from the forward direction to the reverse direction.
