    • A door-operating mechanism for a rotatable drum which has a mouth to be closed by a door includes a moveable arm hingedly mounted with anchoring means on the side of the frame of the drum, and clamp means for connection with a stub shaft extending from the door. When the door is closed on the mouth of the drum, the clamp means is disengaged from the stub shaft so that the door is secured, under vacuum pressure within the drum, as an integral part of the rotating drum. Force is thus avoided on the hinged, moveable arm, and stub shaft of the door and door-operating mechanism. The clamp means includes jaws which are activated to release the door after a predetermined vacuum pressure exists within the drum. Energization of the jaws to engage the shaft is effected after the vacuum pressure has decreased to a predetermined level, the mechanism has moved a predetermined axial distance from the door and there has also been a predetermined time delay. Adjustment means are provided for moving the relative position of the door transversely and axially relative to the rotational axis of the drum. Lugs about the periphery of the door also facilitate alignment of the door with the mouth of the drum.

    • A mixing car for transporting molten metals, comprises, a car undercarriage with a longitudinally elongated mixing vessel supported on the undercarriage at each end for rotation about a horizontally disposed longitudinal axis of the vessel. The support means at at least one end comprises a support bridge frame which is universally pivotally mounted on the undercarriage and is provided with journals on each side for accommodating a support roller shaft which is held in position in respect to the support bridge frame by an anti-rotation safety. The roller shafts include ends which extend outwardly from each longitudinal end of the bridge frame and hollow rollers are mounted on each projecting end of the roller shaft on suitable roller bearings. Interior support rollers are also provided which are affixed to the end of the shaft outboard of the roller bearings and which carry diametrically opposite rollers which engage and support the support rollers. The support rollers, in turn, bear against races of annular roller bearing races which are disposed around the vessel longitudinally on each side of a central annular drive gear.

    • A mixing and discharge apparatus is used to mix various feed constituents and to discharge the feed mixture while the vehicle travels. A low energy demand for mixing purposes is provided by eliminating the usual rotary screws or agitators and using solely conveyor plates fixed to the inner wall of the drum for turning with the drum to mix the feed and for conveying the mixture toward the discharge end of the drum. The discharge of the agglutinated feed mixture is facilitated by the use of a cover means which may be shifted to form an annular gap with the drum to provide an accurate metering of the discharge feed mixture. A crossfeed conveyor receives the discharge mixture. Overlapping apertures on the cover of the drum may be used to discharge liquid constituents in a controlled manner.

    • An improved barrel-type treating apparatus comprising a framework, a foraminous treating barrel having an elongated opening supported at its ends on the framework, and a drive mechanism including a shaft on the framework having a driven gear at one end drivingly coupled to the barrel, a drive gear at the opposite end coupled to the shaft through a slip clutch and a stop arm on the shaft for engaging an abutment at a treating station to limit oscillating movement of the barrel between an angularity of preferably at least about 180.degree. up to an angularity below that at which workpieces are inadvertently discharged from the barrel opening. The gear on the barrel is preferably provided with coacting means to prevent loss of synchronization between the barrel and drive assembly. A secondary drive assembly is also preferably provided for oscillating the barrel through a controlled angularity while in an elevated position above a treating station to facilitate drainage of treating solution from the workpieces.

A container for holding platelet concentrate packets contains a series of parallel cells which are disposed at an oblique angle with respect to a horizontal plane. A plurality of platelet packet containers are disposed within an equal number of cylinders which are adapted to securely hold the containers. Each cylinder has circumscribed about the outer surface thereof a friction transfer surface, each of which is aligned to contact the friction transfer bearing surface of an adjacent cylinder. A rotating power source engages a friction transfer surface of a cylinder causing same to rotate, the rotational force being transferred to all adjacent cylinders. Environmental control means maintain an appropriate temperature state during the agitation of all platelet packets being operated upon.
