摘要： A mixing drum includes a body defining a head aperture and a discharge aperture opposite the head aperture, a head coupled to the body and extending across the head aperture, a bearing member coupled to the body and defining a bearing surface surrounding the body, and a mixing element positioned within the volume and coupled to the body. The head and the body define a volume configured to contain a fluid mixture. The mixing element is configured to drive the fluid mixture toward the head when the drum is rotated in a first direction. The mixing element is configured to drive the fluid mixture towards the discharge aperture when the mixing drum is rotated in a second direction opposite the first direction. The head is made from a first material, and the body is made from a second material having a lesser density than the first material.

摘要： A batch or continuous mixer for mixing powders, immiscible liquids, or a powder with a liquid includes one or more vibrational energy applicators which propagate vibrational energy into the mixture, causing powders to flow like liquids and breaking up liquid droplets and powder clumps. In embodiments, the vibration frequency and amplitude are selected according to properties of the mixture components. Vibrations can be propagated through container walls, impellers, or other structures within the mixing container. Vibrated structures can be flexibly supported for enhanced propagation of the vibrations. Vibrational energy can be uniform throughout the container, or focused in a desired region. Ultrasonic energy can be simultaneously applied with acoustic energy.

摘要： A method and apparatus for mixing viscous material, includes placing ingredients of the viscous material within a vessel. An air tight seal is created about the vessel. A vacuum is pulled on the vessel, and the ingredients are mixed within the vessel to form the viscous material while under vacuum. The vacuum is sufficient to reduce the amount of total air content in viscous material to between 0.9% and 0.1% by volume prior to an air entraining agent being added to the viscous material. Once air entraining agent is added, further mixing of the ingredients forms entrained air content in the final viscous material, while the amount of entrapped air in the final viscous material remains reduced.

摘要： The present invention discloses a generic method for producing void and gas occlusion free materials, as well as apparatuses for batch and continuous production of same. This generic method can be utilized in the production of a wide variety of polymeric compounds and composites and specifically encompasses the two ends of the polymeric composite spectrum, that is, polymer concretes on the one hand, and fiber-reinforced polymer composites on the other. The composite materials of the present invention are characterized by visual count as being void and gas occlusion free to the level of 1 micron at 1250null magnification. Concomitantly, the invention produces useful polymer concrete materials which exhibit substantially improved integrity for easy machining at high speeds, and high dielectric and mechanical strength, as compared with composite materials produced by conventional methods. Thus, one particularly well-suited application for the materials of the present invention is the class of high voltage electrical insulating materials and insulators where the presence of voids, or gas occlusion flaws, may have deleterious effects, leading to their early failure.
