    • An improved vehicle wheel construction having an injection molded generally annular filler ring disposed in a radially inwardly facing circumferential cavity of the wheel to prevent material from accumulating in the circumferential cavity of the wheel and causing an out-of-balance wheel condition and method for producing the same is disclosed. The method includes the steps of (a) providing a rim and a disc; (b) securing the rim and the disc together to produce a wheel construction which defines a radially inwardly facing circumferential cavity; (c) positioning the wheel on a carrier; (d) probing the wheel to make sure the wheel is properly positioned on the carrier in a predetermined position and if not, moving the wheel to the predetermined position; (e) inserting a plug through a valve stem opening formed in the wheel (f) moving a mold into engagement with the inner surface of the wheel adjacent the circumferential cavity, the mold including an outer portion formed of a pliable material and having a profile which generally corresponds to the profile of the adjacent surfaces of the wheel, the pliable outer portion of the mold operative to take up any variations in the wheel profile so as to form a seal at the wheel engagement surfaces and thereby isolate the circumferential cavity; (g) injecting a filler material through a passageway formed in the mold; and (h) maintaining the mold in engagement with the inner surface of the wheel adjacent the circumferential cavity until the filler material cures to a non-reactive state and forms an injection molded generally annular filler ring of a generally solid material.

    • A screw anchoring device for aperture sealing attachment with an apertured panel to confine insulating material foamed in place between the panel and an attached spaced wall or other structure. The device includes a plate member having corners and a generally flat portion lying in a plane with a central aperture forming a helical screw receiving impression. The device also has a pair of upstanding tabs projecting from one face of the generally flat portion of the plate member at opposite sides of and adjacent to the screw impression. The plate member has a raised portion formed from the plate member at the corners and along each of two opposite edges of the flat portion of the plate member. These raised portions are convexly curved upwardly from the plane of the flat portion and from the face opposite from the face with the upstanding tabs and the corners of the plate member are semi-spherical shaped. There is a continuous pad of material capable of being penetrated by a screw and having an exposable adhesive surface substantially covering and carried by the plate member with the tabs projecting for entry into the paneled aperture and through the pad and having the adhesive surface of the pad extending across the panel aperture for mounting and sealing adherence to the adjacent panel surface to prevent egress of trapped insulating material through the paneled aperture. The screw impression is in position for threaded engagement with a screw passed through the panel aperture and the pad for attachment of a utility component to the opposite panel surface.

    • A hollow torsion bar reinforced by a mixture of resin and filler and method of making such a torsion bar. The torsion bar is formed from mild or medium grade steel seamless or welded tubing. The tubing is cut to length and charged preferably with a mixture of substantially uncured thermoset resin and plastic or glass hollow microspheres and/or metal pellets. The mixture may be charged into the tube by injection as a paste or by placing inside the tube a B-staged form insert having preferably between about 10 and 50 percent elongation tensile strength. After the tube has been charged with the reinforcing mixture, the tube is bent to form a torsion bar having a radius arm and a spring portion. In areas that the torsion bar is bent, the reinforcing mixture is provided to act as an internal mandrel preventing collapse of the tube walls. The mixture is then cured and bonded in place by chemical reaction of the resin or by thermally curing the resin mixture within the tube. The mixture, upon curing, bonds to the walls of the tube and increases in compressive and shear strength and has a lower percent elongation. Bonding to the tube walls may inherently occur if the resin used in the mixture is an epoxy resin. The mixture imparts substantial vibration damping and acoustic attenuation. In one aspect, the core constitutes a plurality of bonded-together plastic syntactic pellets which define a network of interstices rendering the torsion bar even more lightweight and acoustically desirable.

    • A reinforced hard porous ink roll assembly and a method of making same. The ink roll assembly of the invention comprises a hard porous material suitable for inking, the improvement comprising a hard ink resistant material encompassing a substantial portion of the outside surface of the roll to provide reinforcement therefor. A method of making the roll of the invention is also provided in which the hard porous inking material is made by metering the polymeric material which is used to form said hard porous material into a mold in increments, and applying pressure to the mold and polymeric material at each increment. After the mold is filled with the polymeric material, the polymeric material is cured. The roll is cooled and a strip of the mold material is milled to expose a small portion of the hard porous inking material in a straight strip parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roll.

Between the two pouring devices a strip supply roll, a guide arrangement and a pressure roller are arranged to apply a separating strip between the two insulating cores which is vertically spaced from the temporary bridging strip. A cutting arrangement is provided to remove the temporary bridging strip.
