    • At least one physical designation (16) associated with an object (12) available in a game draw is mapped to a preferably randomly generated virtual designation (32). The resulting map relating the physical designation (16) to a virtual designation (32) is not available to the game operator. When the physical designation (16) is drawn and entered into the game system (10), the system converts the entered physical designation (16) to the mapped or related virtual designation (32), and this virtual designation is the designation actually used in the play of the game. Thus, the operator is unable to cooperate with a player to cheat in the game by simply calling the physical designation (16) needed by the player to win.

    • Systems and methods for real-time interactive wagering on event outcomes are presented. Clients are first qualified and given wagering limits before being allowed to interactively wager on event outcomes. Event outcomes may be based on, for example, financial markets and indices, sporting and entertainment events, casino performances, and natural phenomena such as weather and earthquakes. Events on which wagers can be placed include both those with known and unknown outcome probabilities, and wagers can be a fixed-odds type or a spread-bet type. Wager transactions, including acceptances and confirmations, are executed in real time. Clients can customize displays of events on which they are authorized to wager. Real-time client credit management, automatic dealer hedging, automatic price-spread adjustments, and automatic client and dealer defined wagering limits are also provided.

    • Device for manufacturing game pieces and generating movement sequences to be used in a game of chance with a predetermined number of winners. The device includes a printing machine, a computer processor, readable and writeable memory means incorporating a plurality of registers, and a plurality of communication links. The printing machine prints a start column, an end column, a number of parts, each part comprising a director area, and director patterns on each game piece. The computer processor is configured to obtain game piece manufacturing data incorporating numbers representing maximum vertical differences between the start and end positions of each part. Also, the processor generates one list of director areas for each part, the director areas comprising a director pattern, and sorts the lists so that director patterns resulting in small vertical differences between the start and end positions of each part are arranged to be placed first. The computer randomly selects a number of director patterns of each part, and generates one list of series of marker moves for each part. The lists, when applied to the director patterns, result in specific vertical differences between the start and end positions of each part. The computer selects, for all game pieces, one director pattern for each part of the game piece, and transmits data concerning columns, the number of parts, director patterns and their positions in each part to the printing machine for printing on a game piece.

    • The invention is the "Darkhorse" method of selecting the winning number in a multiple number selection lottery contest, (a so-called "numbers game"). Instead of randomly selecting the winning number at the close of play by use of a random number generating device, the winning number is declared to be, by rule of the game, that number upon which the least amount of money will be wagered during the course of the game. In case of a tie, the lowest number played least is declared to be the winning number. As the game proceeds, numbers, as they are played, are entered into the memory of a digital computer programmed to sort the numbers, tally the amounts wagered on each number, and feed back to the lottery wager-entry terminals the identity of the lowest number played least and such other information as the contest operator may choose to disclose to wagerers as the game progresses. (The contest operator may choose to conduct the game "blind," that is without any feedback of any information to the wagerers during the course of the game.) At the close of play the contest operator immediately discloses the lowest number played least during the contest. Using this winning number selection method a lottery operator will never have to pay out in winnings any more money than the operator took in as wagers.As a variation of this method of number selection, wagerers may be offered the option of "unplaying" a number, thus reducing that number's score in the game and enhancing that number's chance of being the winning number. Each "unplay" of a number costs the "unplayer" an amount of money established by rule of the game, at least equal to the amount of a positive wager placed on that number, but it does not give the "unplayer" an additional chance at winning. Using the "unplay" option enhances interest in the contest by making it more interactive, but it also exposes the lottery operator to the possibility that it will have to pay out in winnings an amount of money in excess of the amount taken in as wagers.
