    • An improved electrical connector assembly (10) is disclosed. The assembly is especially adapted for engagement with a printed circuit board (76) having electrical circuits formed on both sides thereof. The assembly includes a body (12) of molded dielectric material having four spaced rows of passages (24) extending therethrough from a front face (26) to a rear face (28) of the body. The assembly also includes brush wire electrical contacts (14) each received in its respective passage. Each of the contacts has a cylindrical body portion (62) and an elongated tail (64) attached to one end of its body portion. The ends (72) of the termination portions extend beyond the rear face and form two spaced straight line rows adapted to receive the printed circuit board therebetween. The ends (63) of the body portions opposite their respective termination portions comprise four spaced apart, straight line rows of body portion ends. The connector assembly is thereby adapted to mate with a square grid brush contact connector at the four rows of body portion ends.

    • A connector for a ring circuit of a bus-system with a plurality of connectable information sending and/or information receiving units, whereby the connector has a housing with several plug contacts provided with cutters, which cutters cut through the insulation of the ring circuit for the contacting and which are connectable with an information sending and/or information receiving unit, and under circumstances with a consumer. The housing which receives the plug contacts is constructed as a connector upper part which can be slipped on the ring circuit and under certain circumstances additional lines. The information receiving unit is constructed with use of a printed board assembly and is housed in a capsule which is able to be slipped on the upper part of the housing. The plug contacts have contact surfaces which contact the connection surfaces of the printed board assembly.

    • A first set of conductors (e.g. 25 of them) leading for example to a communications modem, is connected by way of a corresponding set of normally-closed switches to corresponding conductors of a second set, leading for example to local equipment such as a computer. At least one of the above sets of conductors is also connected to connector means into which a multi-wire (e.g. 24 wire) patching cable may be plugged. The plugging-in of the patching cable automatically opens the normally-closed switches to isolate the first and second sets of conductors from each other, as is usually desired for patching purposes. Preferably the switches are magnetically-operable reed switches, switched between their open and closed states by magnet means controlled by the plugging-in of the patching cable. Preferably the plugging-in moves the magnet means physically from a position near the switches for which the switches are operated to one of their states, to a position more remote from the switches for which the switches assume their opposite state. In a preferred embodiment the magnet means are mounted on a slidable panel, which is moved slidably by a protruding tab on the patching-cable plug when the plug is inserted, and the panel is returned to its original position by a spring when the plug is removed. Patching of many-conductor cables is thereby made possible with a simple single motion by the operator, and with reliable and relatively inexpensive apparatus.
