    • An improved electrical connector assembly (10) is disclosed. The assembly is especially adapted for engagement with a printed circuit board (76) having electrical circuits formed on both sides thereof. The assembly includes a body (12) of molded dielectric material having four spaced rows of passages (24) extending therethrough from a front face (26) to a rear face (28) of the body. The assembly also includes brush wire electrical contacts (14) each received in its respective passage. Each of the contacts has a cylindrical body portion (62) and an elongated tail (64) attached to one end of its body portion. The ends (72) of the termination portions extend beyond the rear face and form two spaced straight line rows adapted to receive the printed circuit board therebetween. The ends (63) of the body portions opposite their respective termination portions comprise four spaced apart, straight line rows of body portion ends. The connector assembly is thereby adapted to mate with a square grid brush contact connector at the four rows of body portion ends.

    • An improved method of making a retention collar (16) medially of an elongated electrical contact (10) of the type including a shoulder portion (14) and a termination portion (18), the shoulder portion (14) being formed with an axial passage (22) sized to secure several straight conductive wires (24) for mating. The individual wires are inserted into the passage and the shoulder portion then swaged (i.e., squeezed) by a pair of movable dies (36, 46) in an axial direction along the entire length of the passage so that an outer wall portion of the shoulder portion is pushed axially rearwardly and radially outwardly to thereby form the retention collar (16) and also pushed radially inwardly to thereby secure the wires within the passage.

    • An apparatus for extracting an electrical contact (400) from a housing passage (510), said apparatus including a first member (100) with an internal bore (130) extending rearwardly from a forward end (110) and a second member (200) having a tapered or pointed forward end (211) and movably mounted within the bore of said first member. The electrical contact (400) preferably has a plurality of aligned wires (410) and held within a passage of an electrical connector insert. When the first member (100) is inserted over the contact (400) and the second member (200) is moved forward, the pointed end (211) of the second member urges the wires radially outward and into pressure contact with a portion of the bore (130) of the first member. The axially aligned wires are in pressure contact for removal of the contact simultaneously with the removal of the apparatus. The first member has an axial slot extending rearwardly from the forward surface to accommodate a bent wire.
