    • An insulated siding panel comprises a foam insulation layer, an attachment member, and optionally a veneer layer. The foam insulation layer comprises a front face, a rear face, a tongue along a first end edge, a groove along a second end edge, and a slot defined in the rear face. The attachment member comprises an attachment rail and a member extending transversely from the attachment rail. The member of the attachment member is inserted into the slot of the foam insulation layer. When present, the veneer layer is attached to the front face of the foam insulation layer. When joined with other insulated siding panels, the interlocking occurs along the foam insulation layers to form an unbroken layer of insulation.

    • This invention concerns a light weight sheet felt material suitable for use as roof and siding underlayment and insulation board facing which comprises on a dry basis (a) 60-80 wt. % cellulose fibers; (b) 15-30 wt. % glass fibers having a diameter of 5 to 16 microns and a length of 3/8-3/4 inch; (c) 4-10 wt. % binder and (d) 0.5-10 wt. % non-asphaltic, sizing agent having a flash point above 150.degree.F. and an evaporation rate less than one which is selected from the group consisting of anionic rosinous and amphipathic ester and anhydride sizes and mixtures thereof. The felt of this invention is of considerably lighter weight and higher porosity than other felting materials used for the same purpose and can be supplied in longer continuous sheet rolls than heretofore practical from a standpoint of handling, shipping, storage, and installation. Also the present sheet felt can be produced on conventional felt making equipment in a one step process.

    • A selective plurality of elongate half-logs, lumber planks which may have imperfect or damaged edges, or a combination of both, are superposed on each other and adhesively joined to form an intermediate assembly, which is then divided by one or more beam-long cuts made perpendicularly to the flat surfaces of the half-logs or planks. The resulting outer sections of the intermediate assembly, substantially mirror-images of each other, are reoriented so that the original outer edges face each other and are positioned so that a selected space remains between them. Various spacing and bracing elements are selectively chosen to connect the two outer sections and thus to form a laminated space-containing wood beam structure, on which surface-covering sheathing or coatings may be applied optionally.

    • An insulating board is formed of a low density insulating material, such as polystyrene foam. The board has apertures therein and a plurality of slots on its upper and its lower surfaces, the slots in the lower surface being offset from those in the upper surface. A high density material, such as gypsum or artificial resin or a cement fills the apertures and slots and extends over the upper and the lower surfaces of the board and, if desired, over it edges to form a composite sheet. Sheets of paper, plastic or metal may be fixed to the top and to the bottom of the composite sheet. A tile may be provided by affixing a planar sheet or the like to the top side of the composite sheet, the planar sheet, when in place, conforming to the upper surface of the composite sheet. A method of making the sheet involves bringing the board of low density material into contact with the material of higher density and allowing it to set or cure. The method of producing the composite sheet involves filling the apertures and slots on the insulating board with the high density material so as to cover at least one of the upper or lower surface thereof. The depth of the slots are at least slightly greater than the thickness of the board. Some or all of the apertures are defined by intersections between slots in the upper and lower surfaces of the board.

    • A method for manufacturing an elongated, box-like structural component comprising two mutually opposing side-members (1, 2) which define a cavity therebetween. The mutually opposing surfaces of the side-members present longitudinally extending grooves into which projections on distance pieces (3) located between the members engage. In the process of manufacturing the structural component pairs of boards or the like are advanced in spaced relationship in the longitudinal direction of the boards into a receiving station (7) with the grooved inner surfaces of the boards facing one another, the distance pieces (3) being placing between the boards as they enter the station (7). As the boards leave the station, they are pressed towards one another in a manner to bring the projections on the distance pieces (3) into engagement with the grooves on the inwardly facing surfaces of the boards. The invention also relates to a machine for use when carrying out the method, and to a structural component manufactured in accordance with the method.
