In the retracted configuration, the strut is compact and may be inserted into position aligned with a shaft made in the medullary canal via a portal made in the lateral cortex of the bone. 摘要： An acetabular cup prosthesis which has facilities for ready removal. In one form it has grooves to guide a surgical saw on the inside, preferably to cut the prosthesis in quadrants for removal, and also having threaded sockets to insert a tool to remove the quadrants. Additionally or alternatively, it has protrusions from its rear not adapted to offer much resistance in case of removal. In the preferred form two blades protrude from the rear and are offset, so that they come to a point and also form a knife edge at the side. Outrigger blades are provided extending perpendicular to the diameter and terminating at a less height than the radius. In the preferred form the rear of the prosthesis has a porous coating and also the blades have a porous coating. In alternate forms, spikes extend from the rear of the prosthesis offset and in parallel relation, either from one side in a cluster or from one side distributed over that side. In another form there is a screw which extends from the rear end offset to the axis of symmetry. In another form there are blades which lie along the rear, for example parallel to one another and parallel to the diameter or at right angles to the diameter.

摘要： A joint replacement prosthesis and procedure reduce the number of steps to complete a joint replacement. The joint replacement prosthesis comprises a ball and socket unit that fixes the ball in the socket prior to surgery. The unit is coupled to a bone structure in the patient and is coupled with a prosthesis that is fixed to another bone of the patient, such as a femoral implant fixed in a femur and providing a coupling at the end of a neck portion that is easily fit into a femoral head and acetabulum unit. A tether may be used to retain the ball in the socket and/or the ball may be retained by extension in the socket that do not restrict patient motion.

摘要： A method of implanting a prosthetic acetabular cup into a patient is disclosed. The method comprises gaining access to an acetabulum of the patient, where the acetabulum includes an inner portion formed of bone and an outer portion formed of articular cartilage. The method also comprises creating a recess within the articular cartilage of the outer portion of the acetabulum without removing any portion of bone from the inner portion of the acetabulum. The recess is shaped to mate with a snap-fit structure of the prosthetic acetabular cup. Finally, the method comprises securely engaging the prosthetic acetabular cup with the acetabulum by snap-fitting the snap-fit structure of the prosthetic acetabular cup with the recess in the articular cartilage of the outer portion of the acetabulum.

摘要： Prosthetic hip stems for use in prosthetic hip joints and, in particular, provides prosthetic hip stems that are designed to achieve more optimized outcomes with certain types of patient anatomy, such as the anatomy of female patients and/or patients having osteoporosis. Each hip stem in a family or set of hip stems has diaphyseal width, metaphyseal width, offset, and head height dimensions. In a set of hip stems of increasing nominal size, the diaphyseal width dimension increases substantially non-proportionally to the corresponding increase of the metaphyseal width, offset, and head height dimensions, thereby providing a family or set of hip stems that is particularly adapted for patients having osteoporosis, in which the cortical bone of the diaphysis of the femur becomes thinner with progression of the osteoporosis.
