The heat exchanger is designed in a plate form, and flow spaces for a first medium and a second medium are alternately between successive plates. The plates of the heat exchanger are configured as essentially annularly. The heat exchanger has, substantially perpendicularly to the plates, a tubular outer wall and a tubular inner wall. The reactor is surrounded by the inner wall of the heat exchanger. The product of the reactor is conducted through supply orifices on the inner wall of the heat exchanger into the flow spaces for one of the two fluids in the heat exchanger.

摘要： Syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, is an intermediate in the conversion of methane to liquid fuels. For certain applications, it is desirable to maintain an H2/CO molar ratio of about 3. This molar ratio is achieved by steam reforming of methane in accordance with: CH4+H2O→3H2+CO. To provide the heat required to drive the endothermic steam reforming reaction, a low grade fuel is combusted in a reactor and the heat of combustion conducted to the endothermic reaction. By using an oxygen selective ion transport membrane element to transport the oxygen required for combustion, the formation of undesirable NOx compounds is minimized.

摘要： A multi-tube type heat transfer apparatus includes a plurality of heat transfer tubes disposed in parallel to each other within a shell wall. A plurality of holes having a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the heat transfer tubes are provided in each of a plurality of baffle plates disposed at intervals within the shell wall. The heat transfer tubes extend through the respective holes. A flow passageway of fluid on the side of the shell is composed of annular spaces formed between the outer circumference of the heat transfer tubes and the inner circumferences of the holes in the baffle plates. Preferably the inner diameters of the plurality of holes in the respective baffle plates are different in different regions of the plate, and thereby the cross-sectional areas of the flow passageways of the fluid on the side of the shell between the outer circumferences of the heat transfer tubes and the inner circumferences of the holes in the baffle plates are different in different areas of the apparatus to provide a desired flow distribution of the shell side fluid.

Fuel is fed into the interior of the catalytic combustor and air is directed at the top of the combustor, creating a catalytic reaction which provides sufficient heat so as to maintain the catalytic reaction in the steam reforming catalyst bed. Alternatively, air is fed into the interior of the catalytic combustor and a fuel mixture is directed at the top. The catalytic combustor provides enhanced radiant and convective heat transfer to the reformer catalyst bed.

摘要： Heat is more efficiently transferred to the catalyst tubes in a fuel cell power plant reformer by mounting sleeves about the individual catalyst tubes. The sleeves define helical hot gas flow paths on the outside of the catalyst tubes. Adjacent flow paths are separated from each other by arcuate ribs between the tubes and sleeves that provide line contact with the outer surface of the tubes for improved heat transfer. The ribs may be formed with circular rods attached to the tubes or sleeves, or by helical grooves with semi-circular configurations formed in the sleeves. Approximately fifty percent greater heat transfer can be achieved using the line contact ribs to form the hot gas flow paths. The sleeves, tubes and ribs are all made of metal.
