    • An I.S. machine has a plurality of individual sections arranged in side by side relation. Each section has a blank station for forming a parison from a gob of molten glass, and a blow station for forming a parison into a bottle. An invert and neck ring holder mechanism is located between these stations for transferring a parison between from one station to the other. Each station has a mold opening and closing mechanism which has a pair of opposed mold support mechanisms supported for linear displacement between a retracted position and an advanced position. Each mold support mechanism is supported by a first shaft on one side of the center of the mold opening and closing mechanism, proximate the invert and neck ring holder mechanism, extending perpendicularly to the engagement plane, and by a second shaft on the other side of the center of the mold opening and closing mechanism, remote from the invert and neck ring holder mechanism, extending perpendicularly to the engagement plane. The second shaft is second interconnected with the mold support mechanism enabling relative motion between the mold support mechanism and the second shaft in the parison transfer direction so that expansion of the mold support mechanism will take place in the transfer direction away from the invert and neck ring holder mechanism.

    • A novel means for providing an internal damping mechanism for a system with structural load supporting members that may be subject to time-varying loads, where the structure's structural members have rough holes formed in them, either by casting, drilling, or welding pipe, where the holes can be any shape, but the ideal shape and location maximizes the product of the perimeter of the shape and the distance from the neutral axes to the neutral axis of the structure, so a smooth surfaced shear member, with a diameter several millimeters smaller than the hole and a surface finish on the order of 0.5 micron R.sub.a, with its surfaced covered with a very viscous fluid, can be inserted into the hole so a replicant, such as epoxy or rubber, can be injected around the shear member, such that when the structure bends, shear strains occur between the structure and the shear members and this strain occurs across the viscous fluid interface which is very thin because of the use of the replicant, so therefore the energy dissipation rate will be high and bending and axial vibrations will be damped, said damping system being referred to as a replicated-in-place shear damper.

    • A debris cleaning device is equipped with a compound auger which has a rigid inner auger portion with auger fighting and a plurality of compliant combing attachments connected to the edge of the fighting. Instead of the compound auger, a helical rotary brush with a dense inner region of shorter stiffer bristles and a less populous outer region of longer bristles may be used. The cleaning device also has a suction mechanism with a nozzle located about at the midway point of the length of the auger (or rotary brush). The auger (or rotary brush) is positioned horizontally with its rotational axis co-linear with, or parallel to, an axle of supporting wheels so that the auger (or rotary brush) follows the contour of the surface being cleaned as do the wheels, thereby preventing the auger (or rotary brush) from digging into uneven terrain. The auger (or rotary brush) is positioned at a height above the surface which allows the outer edges of the compliant combing attachments (or longer bristles) to contact the surface. As the attachments (or longer bristles) engage the surface, they dislodge material and help convey it along the axis of the auger (or rotary brush) to a central collection area in front of the auger (or rotary brush) where the nozzle is located. The material is then drawn in through the nozzle by the suction mechanism. The pneumatically conveyed material is then shredded by a fan and exhausted to a collection hopper.
