    • PURPOSE: An exhaust gas purifying device on a cylinder injection internal combustion engine is provided to be used for desorbing a sulfur ingredient by controlling the fuel injection. CONSTITUTION: By raising the exhaust gas temperature, the sulfur components (SOx) sticking to an NOx catalyst are removed and the durability of the NOx catalyst is improved. An exhaust gas purifying device of a cylinder injection internal combustion engine has an NOx catalyst (9A) for adsorbing NOx in an excessive oxygen concentration atmosphere and desorbing it in a reduced oxygen concentration atmosphere and a sulfur component desorbing means (107) for desorbing the sulfur components from the NOx catalyst (9A). This sulfur component desorbing means (107) is so constructed that the sulfur components are desorbed by injecting additional fuel other than main injection in an expanding stroke and by recombusting the additional fuel in the cylinder to raise the exhaust gas temperature to a prescribed one or above.
