CONSTITUTION: An in-cylinder injection type engine comprises a concave cavity(20) formed at an upper surface of a piston, an injector(11) for injecting a fuel into a combustion chamber, and an ignition plug(12) arranged in the vicinity of the cavity to face the injector as viewed in a plane, the engine injecting a fuel from the injector(11) toward the cavity(20) so as to cause a biased arrangement of an air-fuel mixture, the engine further comprising a swirl generating unit for generating swirl in the combustion chamber, wherein fuel injection direction, fuel permeability, and swirl ratio are set in such a manner that a fuel spray from the injector(11) is arranged to direct toward the ignition plug(12) when a pressure in the cylinder is low and escape from the plug(12) by the swirl as the pressure in the cylinder increases.
