    • A tile type surface light source device and a back light unit having the same are provided to combine with the conventional surface light source member without changing the structure of the surface light source member. Unit surface light source devices(200a,200b,200c) include plural discharge channels(220). The discharge channel is partitioned by a partition member(230). Electrodes(240) are formed at both ends of the discharge channel. The discharge gas is injected and sealed within the discharge channel and a fluorescent layer is formed at the inner surface of the discharge channel. The unit surface light source devices are combined so that the discharge space is included by the upper and lower substrates. In that case, the partition member is integrally formed to the upper or lower substrate. The surface light source devices are supported by a frame(210). A light path change member is arranged at the combining portion of the tile type surface light source device.

    • A backlight unit is provided to improve the workability by simplifying handling and assembling processes through a change of a mold structure. A backlight unit includes a surface light source(100), a bottom chassis(200), side molds(400), and an optical member(1000). The surface light source has a light source body with an inner space in which discharge gas is injected and an electrode for applying a discharge voltage. The bottom chassis receives the surface light source. The side molds are provided along first edges of both sides of the bottom chassis in an upper portion of the surface light source. The side molds are positioned and fixed on the bottom chassis. The optical member is positioned on upper portions of the side molds.

    • A backlight unit is provided to improve the optical characteristics and quality thereof and to lowering the temperature of the entire backlight unit by exposing the lower surface of a surface light source unit to outside. A backlight unit includes a surface light source and a chassis frame(200). The surface light source includes a light source body having an interior space into which a discharge gas is injected and an electrode applying a discharge voltage to the discharge gas. A central portion of the chassis frame is penetrated. The chassis frame receives the periphery of the surface light source. The backlight unit further includes an optical member positioned on an upper portion of the chassis frame. The chassis frame includes a support supporting the optical member. The support includes a rib(220) formed outside the periphery of the optical member with the optical member being positioned on the chassis frame.

    • A surface light source apparatus is provided to remove the necessity of the soldering work when fixing a clip to a light source body and to intercept a crack or defect generation factor previously. A light source body(110) has an inner space for receiving the injected discharge gas and includes an electrode for applying voltage to the discharge gas. The light source body includes the first and second substrates(120,130) located oppositely to each other. A partition(131) for partitioning the inner space into plural discharge spaces is equipped to one of the first and second substrates integrally.
