    • A surface light source and a back light unit including the same are provided to control an optic profile of a discharge channel cross-section properly and to prevent the dark portion from generating. Plural discharge channels are formed at light source body and have non-plane surfaces to the outside. In the discharge channel, the ratio of the light amount intensity at the center of a light emission area versus the side of a light emission area is 0.8-1.2. At the center and side of the light emission area of the discharge channel, the surface intensity of illumination differs. At the center and side of the light emission area of the discharge channel, the thickness differs.

    • A tile type surface light source device and a back light unit having the same are provided to combine with the conventional surface light source member without changing the structure of the surface light source member. Unit surface light source devices(200a,200b,200c) include plural discharge channels(220). The discharge channel is partitioned by a partition member(230). Electrodes(240) are formed at both ends of the discharge channel. The discharge gas is injected and sealed within the discharge channel and a fluorescent layer is formed at the inner surface of the discharge channel. The unit surface light source devices are combined so that the discharge space is included by the upper and lower substrates. In that case, the partition member is integrally formed to the upper or lower substrate. The surface light source devices are supported by a frame(210). A light path change member is arranged at the combining portion of the tile type surface light source device.
