    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a germanium light-emitting element in which light is emitted by direct transition using a commercially available inexpensive SOI wafer, a germanium light-emitting element having superior light-emitting property without applying a significant elongation strain to a germanium single crystal, or a germanium light-emitting element capable of reducing a threshold current for laser oscillation.SOLUTION: A thin film laser diode is provided, on an insulator, with a germanium layer having the (100) plane, or the (110) plane, or a plane direction equivalent crystallographically thereto on the surface. A germanium laser diode includes a thin film germanium fin formed perpendicularly to the substrate direction as a light-emitting part, in which the light-emitting part has the (100) plane, or the (110) plane, or a plane direction equivalent crystallographically thereto on the surface, and has one or a plurality of luminous layers.
