    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing a batch cycle time in a process for catalytically producing an ester plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from a reactant containing an acid or an acid anhydride and a C4-C15 monohydric alcohol.SOLUTION: An esterification process includes following batch reaction steps: (i) a step of supplying an alcohol to a mixture of an acid or an acid anhydride at an initial temperature in a reactor; (ii) a step of raising the temperature of the mixture to a desirable esterification temperature for carrying out esterification; and (iii) a step of removing water by boiling, which is a byproduct of the esterification. In these steps, the pressure in the reactor is raised as the temperature of the mixture is raised at least in the initial stage of raising the temperature of the mixture and thus evaporation of the reactant is suppressed. An esterification catalyst is added to the mixture at a predetermined temperature of the mixture which is lower than a desired esterification temperature and higher than an initial temperature of the mixture.
