    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of abnormal sound and deterioration of feeling by inhibiting the useless rotation of engaging members. SOLUTION: A screw shaft 21 is a shaft engaging with an engaging member used for the relative reciprocal movement of a veil arm of a spinning reel and a spool. The screw shaft 21 is equipped with a shaft body 37 and screw-formed groove 38. The shaft body 37 can rotate jointly with the rotation of a handle assembly in at least a line-winding up direction. The screw-formed groove 38 is formed by crossing the outer circumferential surface of the shaft body 37 so as to engage with the engaging member, and at the crossing part 38a, has a first groove part 38b arranged downstream, in the rotating direction, of the crossing part 38a when the shaft body 37 is rotated in the line-winding up direction, and a second groove part 38c arranged upstream, in the rotating direction, of the crossing part 38a and having a wider groove width than that of the first groove part 38b. An engaging member 22a engaged with the spiral groove 21a of the spiral shaft 21 is also disposed on the spinning rod-attached side (upper side) of the master gear shaft 8. A slider main body 22b has the first mounting portion 22c which is a spool shaft 16-fixing portion disposed on the side (lower side) opposite to the spinning rod-attached side of the master gear shaft 8, the second mounting portion 22d which is an engaging member 22a-mounting portion disposed on the spinning rod-attached side (upper side) of the master gear shaft 8, and a connection portion 22e for connecting the first mounting portion 22c to the second mounting portion 22d so that the first mounting portion 22c and the second mounting portion 22d span the master gear shaft 8, when the spool shaft 16 is placed at the most front position.

    • A spinning reel includes a reel main body having a rod attachment portion, a handle shaft rotatably supported by the reel main body, a spool, a rotor, a rotor shaft, a pinion gear, a face gear, and a reciprocating mechanism. The face gear includes a disc portion and an annular ring portion axially extending from the disc portion. The annular ring portion includes gear teeth disposed on an axial surface of the annular ring portion. The pinion gear is disposed on the rotor shaft, and engages the face gear and is coupled to the rotor. The reciprocating mechanism includes a screw shaft which is rotated by the pinion gear. The distance between the axial center of the face gear and an attachment face of the rod attachment portion is set to be no more than 85 mm, and an outer diameter of the face gear is no less than 40 % of this distance. An inner diameter of the face gear is no less than four times the distance between the axial center of the pinion gear and the axial center of the face gear.
