    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leakage of a lubricant from a breather part, and contrarily, suction of outside water via the breather part.
      SOLUTION: A hollow part of a propeller shaft 12 and a sealed space 44 of a differential carrier 14 are communicated with each other via a breather passage 50 arranged in a drive pinion 24 and a rubber hose 52, while a rubber balloon 54 varying its volume according to a pressure is arranged in the hollow part of the propeller shaft 12. When air in the differential carrier 14 expands, the lubricant escapes from the breather passage 50 to the rubber balloon 54, and leakage of the lubricant from an oil seal 42 is prevented. When a pressure in the differential carrier 14 is lowered, the lubricant in the rubber balloon 54 is pushed back into the differential carrier 14, and poor lubrication due to shortage of an oil quantity is prevented while deterioration of rotary balance due to the lubricant in the propeller shaft 12 is prevented. In travel on a flooded road, poor lubrication due to suction of outside water into the differential carrier 14 is not caused.

This eliminates the need for the fastening bolts parallel to the rotational axial center C2 to avoid the interference of the head of the fastening bolt with a side bearing and a bearing portion of a differential carrier and reduce the size of the differential gear device 10 in the direction of the rotational axial center C2, while preventing the occurrence of looseness between two components constituting the differential case 36. The first split case portion 46 and the second split case portion 48 are components having the same shape to allow easy manufacture and component management.
