SOLUTION: A controller for electric rolling stock includes main power supplies 1-3 for supplying DC power, a power converter 8 for supplying a vehicle drive motor 9 with AC power produced by converting DC power from the main power supply, a power storage device 7 for storing DC power arranged in parallel between the main power supply and the power converter, a chopper 5 connected in series with the power storage device and supplying the power storage device with DC power from the main power supply and regenerated DC power from the power converter while chopping, and a circulation diode 6 connected in series with the power storage device and in parallel with the chopper and supplying a current in the direction from the power storage device to the power converter. The control unit 9 determines an abnormality of a ground fault or a short circuit accident resulting from the crossover 10 in a drive system based on the current value detected from the AC current sensor 3 and the DC current sensor 7, and outputs an opening command to the contactor if the abnormality is detected.

    • PURPOSE: To continue operating an electric rolling stock by changing over one of VVVF inverters by a control part and outputting CVCF a.c. power to an electric rolling stock auxiliary circuit when a CVCF inverter gets out of order. CONSTITUTION: When a CVCF inverter 9 gets out of order, a changeover part 8 detects it and changes over changeover switches 81-83 to (y) terminal side for connection. Also, switches 84, 85 are turned off and a connection switch 86 is turned on. Then d.c. power is supplied to a VVVF inverter 5d from a pantograph 1 through a circuit breaker 2b. Accordingly, the VVVF inverter 5d is operated as a CVCF inverter, and CVCF a.c. power is supplied to an electric rolling stock auxiliary circuit 14 through a waveform filter 10 and a transformer 11. Thus, the VVVF inverter 5d is disconnected from a main electric motor 6d, and all main electric motors 6a-6d cannot be driven but the operation of an electric rolling stock can be continued since a power supply for the electric rolling stock auxiliary circuit 14 is always established.
