摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute stable screening by a method wherein a tensile force given to an optical fiber between a screening wheel and a tension help wheel is controlled to have a strength in the middle between the tensile force between a capstan wheel and the screening wheel and that between the tension help wheel and a winder. SOLUTION: A constant screening tensile force T1 is given to an optical fiber 2 between a capstan wheel 31 and a screening wheel 32 in accordance with a torque set for the screening wheel 32. Besides, a tensile force T2 is also given to the optical fiber 2 between the screening wheel 32 and a tension help wheel 33 in accordance with the torque set for the tension help wheel 33. On the occasion, the tensile force T2 is made to have a strength in the middle between the screening tensile force T1 and a winding tensile force T3. By setting the tensile force T2 in this manner, a difference between the tensile forces given on the respective opposite sides of both of the screening wheel 32 and the tension help wheel 33 is lessened and thus occurrence of sliding is reduced.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber screening device by which wire flapping is not caused when an optical fiber to be inspected is wound at a high speed. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 2 rewound from a supply bobbin 1 is successively wound on a capstan wheel 3, screening wheel 5 and tension wheel 6, transferred and wound on a winding bobbin by a winder 7 in this screening device. In this case, a screening tension is applied on the fiber 2 between the capstan wheel 3 and screening wheel 5 by the adjustment of the torque of the screening wheel 5 to break the low-strength part of the fiber. For the purpose, a pass line extension 30 is newly provided between the screening wheel 5 and winder 7, and the length of the fiber wound unilt the winder 7 is stopped by a brake after the fiber 2 is broken is made shorter the traveling path of the fiber from the screening wheel 5 to the winder 7.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a method and device for producing a glass preform for an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A porous glass preform is produced by producing and depositing glass fine particles in a reaction chamber 1. In this process, the velocity of discharged gas in a duct 8 where glass particles not deposited are discharged from the reaction chamber 1 is specified at >=15m/sec. More preferably, air in the outside of the reaction chamber 1 is introduced to the duct 8 where glass fine particles not deposited are discharged from the reaction chamber 1 so that the pressure fluctuation in the reaction chamber 1 is reduced. By this method, chalking of the duct 8 due to glass fine particles can be prevented and the inner pressure of the reaction chamber 1 can be stably maintained for a long time.

SOLUTION: This method for processing an optical fiber preform comprises making one end of a glass rod for optical fiber having the other end gripped by one chuck of a vertical type glass lathe and one end of a dummy rod similarly having the other end gripped by the other chuck of the vertical type glass lathe face each other mutually at a proper interval, bringing both the ends face to face while heating for a fixed time and bonding the glass rod to the dummy rod. In this case, pressing pressure between the face at the end of the glass rod for optical fiber and the face at the end of the dummy rod is monitored and joining by melting and bonding are carried out while controlling the chuck operation so as to make a molten state optimum for the joining by melting.

The mold is maintained at a temperature above the melting point of the fluoride glass for a prescribed period and quenched to room temperature to vitrify the molten glass. The solidified glass is annealed and taken out of the mold and the round rod is pulled out of the formed glass to obtain a tube.
