CONSTITUTION:This roller electrostatic charging device is constituted to uniformly electrostatically charge the surface of the drum-shaped or belt-shaped photosensitive body by applying only the DC voltage to an electrostatic charging roller 101 rotating in contact with the photosensitive body. This electrostatic charging roller 101 is composed of epichlorhydrine rubber and the roller hardness of the electrostatic charging roller 101 is specified to >=42 (by JIS A type hardness meter). More specifically, an elastic layer (3mm thickness) 103 of the epichlorhydrine is molded on an arbor 102 of 8phi in such a manner that the outside diameter of the roller attains 14phi. This elastic layer 103 is provided thereon with a surface layer (coating film) 104 of a thin (about 5mum) polyamide resin.

Thus, an oblique line becomes smooth even if the image is enlarged and jaggy or the like are cancelled.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of corona products such as ozone, nitrogen oxide NOx, generated when corona discharging is carried out, and to prevent the occurrence of an abnormal image such as image blur, the void by uniformly charging a photosensitive body through the use of positive corona discharging. CONSTITUTION:The reflected light of an original 1 is converted to an electric signal form a CCD 5, and inputted into a laser diode driving circuit. After the surface of a photosensitive drum 9 is uniformly electrified to 800V by a corotron type electrifying charger 11, and a potential distribution is formed according to the turning-on and -off of laser light. The potential distribution formed on the drum 9 and the variable density distribution of a recorded image are in coincidence, so that an electrostatic latent image corresponding to the variable density of the original 1 is formed on the surface of the drum 1. A transfer roller 13 has the application of +800V at the same time when the drum 9 is rotated, and switching to the transfer bias of -1.2KV is carried out to transfer a toner image just before a recording sheet 17 reaches the transfer roller 13.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent an image from generating voids and having its ground stained by providing a developing bias switching means which increases and decreases a developing bias in addition to an image density adjusting means. CONSTITUTION:When a notch key 26 for image density adjustment on a console panel is operated, the set levels of the threshold values of all picture elements are increased or decreased to vary the density of a formed image. Further, when the white void prevention key 27 and ground staining prevention key 28 of a developing bias switching means are operated, the developing bias potential is increased or decreased to set the relation of the dark potential and light potential of an electrostatic latent image with the developing bias potential to the best condition. Therefore, the relation between the potential state of the electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive drum and the developing bias potential is adjusted to a proper state to prevent the formed image from generating voids and has its ground stained.
