    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of maintaining stable charging function for a charging member for a long time. SOLUTION: When a copy start key is pressed, a solenoid 10f is switched ON and a charging roller 2 is brought into contact with a photosensitive drum 1 so as to charge the surface of the photosensitive drum. When a copying process is finished, the solenoid 10f is switched OFF and the charging roller 2 is removed from the photosensitive drum 1 to be brought into contact with a cleaning pad 11. In this condition, the charging roller 2 is rotated at a specified speed for a specified time and cleaning is performed. Herein, if the number of times of continuously forming images is large, a cleaning time is extended, or the rotating speed of the charging roller 2, that is, a cleaning speed is increased. Thus, cleaning is assured.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of holding the surface potential of a photoreceptor at a fixed value by always setting/applying a proper electrifying voltage to an electrifying roller in accordance with ambient temperature and humidity. SOLUTION: A temperature detecting sensor 20 detects the temp. of the electrifying roller 2 electrifying the photoreceptor 1, and a microcomputer 50 selects one of two kinds of temperature correction characteristics, based on the detected temperature. Then, a voltage corrected with the selected temperature correction characteristic is applied to the electrifyied roller 2 as an electrifying voltage, the photoreceptor 1 is electrifying by the roller 2, based on the electrifying voltage and the microcomputer 50 stores the previous temp. detected during the time when power is turned off. In such a case, when the temp. detected during the time when the power is supplied is within a fixed temperature range with respect to the previous temp. detected just before the power is turned off, the setting control of the electrifying voltage is executed with the previous temperature correction characteristic and the photoreceptor 1 is electrified at the proper electrifying voltage, according to the temp. and humidify in the environment of the device. Thus, the formation of an image of high quality, without being adversely affected by the sudden turning on/off of a main switch can be attained without the influence of an environmental condition.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent electric inhomogeneity and to eliminate irregular electrification produced when only DC voltage is applied, by controlling the proportion of carbon black in a surface layer to be larger than the proportion of carbon black in an elastic layer. SOLUTION: This electrifying roller has at least two layers of an elastic layer and a surface layer which covers the elastic layer. The proportion of carbon black in the surface layer is controlled to be larger than the proportion of carbon black in the elastic layer. The elastic layer consists of an epichlorohydrin rubber, while the surface layer consists of an alcohol-soluble copolymer nylon resin and carbon black. The proportion of the carbon black to the nylon resin component in the surface layer is controlled to be larger than the proportion of the carbon black to the epichlorohydrin rubber component in the elastic layer. Moisture dependence of the resistance can be thereby suppressed low and changes in the electrification characteristics due to the environment can be decreased.

    • PURPOSE: To enable optimum electrification just after a transfer paper jammed during an image forming operation is removed and the image forming operation is resumed. CONSTITUTION: When the jam of the fed transfer paper P is detected by a jam detecting means 37, a contact/uncontact means for detecting a temp. 39 actuates a solenoid 45 and a temperature detecting sensor 20 separated from an electrifying roller 2, at the time of forming an image is brought into contact with the surface of the electrifying roller 2. Therefore, heated air in a machine escapes to its outside by the opening of the cover of a device, at the time of processing the jam, so that even if an atmospheric temp. in the vicinity of the temperature detecting sensor 20 in the machine is suddenly dropped, the sensor 20 directly and accurately detects the temp. of the surface of the electrifying roller 2, in the contact state therewith, to apply an optimum voltage corresponding to the detected temp. to the electrifying roller 2.
