    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of diagnosis by separately and sequentially diagnosing failures of a fuel cutoff valve and a fuel pressure sensor in a supply pipeline system for gaseous fuel. SOLUTION: This engine controller for a gaseous fuel engine provided with the fuel cutoff valve, a fuel pressure controller, a first fuel pressure sensor detecting a fuel injection pressure, and a fuel injection valve, in this order from the upstream, has a first fuel pressure sensor diagnostic means and a fuel cutoff valve diagnostic means. The sensor diagnostic means has a first comparison means comparing a fuel pressure difference between the former and latter pressure in operation on the basis of a detection value of the sensor; a second comparison means comparing a difference between the detection value of the sensor and a fuel pressure estimation value, and a third comparison means comparing a fuel pressure correction value based on the detection value of the sensor with a prescribed value and comparing an air-fuel ratio correction value with a prescribed value. The sensor diagnostic means diagnoses a function of the sensor on the basis of the comparison results. The valve diagnostic means diagnoses a function of the fuel cutoff valve on the basis of a difference between the detection value of the sensor when the fuel cutoff valve closes and the detection valve of the sensor when the fuel cutoff valve opens, and diagnoses the function of the fuel cutoff valve after the diagnosis of the sensor function.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve in the lubricativeness of a needle by installing a filter which atomizes an oil mist being contained in gas fuel and diffuses it in a fuel passage, in this CNG engine in use of compressed natural gas(CNG). SOLUTION: Gas fuel to be forcibly fed to an injector 1 passes through a filter 40, flowing into a fuel passage 4, and then it is sprayed out of a nozzle hole 11 of a nozzle 10 with a needle 2 lifting. At this time, any foreign substances in the gas fuel is filtrated by this filter 40, and thereby such a possibility that these foreign substances might be bitten into space between the needle 2 and the nozzle 10 and the gas fuel leaked from the injector 1 is prevented from occurring. Most of CNG are transmorted in a gaseous state, and since a trace of oil is mixed in a process till being fed as the CNG, an oil mist in the gas fuel is atomized by the filter 40 and diffused in the fuel passage 4, whereby it is stuck to a peripheral surface slidingly contacting with a guide 30 of the needle 2 and a valve element part 21 colliding with a seat surface 12, improving their lubricativeness.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively ensure exhaust gas purifying performance by comprising the start of energization delaying means for delaying the start of energization of an electric heating catalyst, with respect to the start of the secondary air supply from a secondary supply means, after the start of an engine, in a device for accelerating the activation of the catalyst. SOLUTION: A sub-catalyst 4 and a main catalyst 5 are mounted on the specific parts of an exhaust passage 3 connected with a downstream of an exhaust manifold of a V-type six-cylinder engine 1, and the secondary air is supplied to the exhaust manifold through a secondary air supply passage by an electric air pump 17. In the control of the energization of an electric heating catalyst(EHC) of the sub-catalyst 4, whether the energizing condition to EHC4A is satisfied or not, is judged, so that a delay in the start of energization to EHC4A is set while making reference to a map table corresponding to the water temperature of the engine 1, and the energization to EHC4A is delayed with respect to the supply of the secondary air, in case of YES, to activate the minimum capacity of catalyst in the early period.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diagnose an electrically heated catalyst by itself without deteriorating catalytic efficiency by calculating resistance of an electrically heated catalyst based on a drop in voltage across a current detecting resistance and, when the resistance is out of a specified range, by judging that the function of the electrically heated catalyst is deteriorated. SOLUTION: An electrically heated catalyst(EHC) 1 is disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine to oxidize HC, CO in the exhaust and to reduce NOX. If the EHC 1 is not heated to a catalyst activating temperature, it can not exert fully an exhaust cleaning function. Therefore, it is provided with a temperature sensor 2 for detecting the temperature of the EHC 1 and is supplied with electricity to heat itself at the time of cold starting at which an exhaust amount of the HC is large in particular. In this constitution, when the EHC 1 is not supplied with an electricity from an alternator 6, it is supplied with an electricity from a battery to the EHC 1 via a resistance 10 and the resistance of the EHC 1 is detected based on a drop in voltage across the resistance 10, whereby a functional diagnosis of the EHC 1 is made without deteriorating a catalytic effect.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly estimate the alcohol concentration of working fuel even in case that an assumed air-fuel ratio exists in a region with no air-fuel ratio feedback control when alcohol containing fuel is used as the working fuel.
SOLUTION: The alcohol concentration estimating device for an engine comprises a target air-fuel ratio setting means 11 for setting a target air-fuel ratio to be richer or leaner than the theoretical air-fuel ratio of the alcohol non-containing fuel, an actual air-fuel ratio detecting means 17 for detecting the actual air-fuel ratio of the working fuel, and an alcohol concentration calculating means 11 for calculating the alcohol concentration of the working fuel in accordance with the ratio of the target air-fuel ratio to the detected actual air-fuel ratio.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the excessive heating of an electric-heated catalyst converter by interposing a temperature sensing switch for cutting off a current supplied to the electric-heated catalyst converter by sensing the temperature increase of the electric-heated catalyst converter between a shell and an electrode. SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device includes an electric-heated catalyst converter 5 interposed in a shell 4, a negative electrode 10 installed in the outer peripheral side of this electric-heated catalyst converter 5, a positive electrode installed in the opposite side thereof and an electric heating function for carrying a current to a carrier through these electrodes, electric heater function are provided. In this case, as a temperature sensing switch for cutting off a current supplied to the electric- heated catalyst converter 5 when the temperature of the electric-heated catalyst converter 5 is increased, a bimetal 1 is provided for connecting the negative electrode 10 with the shell 4. The tip part of this bimetal 1 is joined to the outer peripheral surface of the shell 4 when a temperature is equal to a specified level or lower and, when the temperature is increased more than the specified value, the tip part of the same is separated from the outer peripheral surface of the shell 4 and thereby carrying of the current is turned ON/OFF.
