    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the degree of freedom to the arrangement of a cast slab and to enable casting of one strand of a large cross sectional cast slab and many strands of small cross sectional cast slab with one set of a stirring device by forming iron cores of an electromagnetic stirring device arranged the outer periphery of molds for cast slabs as the rectangular cylindrical shape having the rectangular shape in the cross sectional surface and the hollow shape in the inner part, and arranging two or more of passages of the cast slabs in the hollow part. SOLUTION: The iron core 1 is formed by laminating the rectangular shaped magnetic bodies so as to surround the passages of two pieces of of cast slabs 2a, 2a' and distributed winding electric wires are wound to four sides and twelve pieces of coils 3-14 are arranged in three pieces to each side of the iron core 1. Further, U phase in a three-phase AC source to the coils 3, 4, 9, 10, V phase to the coils 7, 8, 13, 14 and W phase to the coils 5, 6, 11, 12 are connected, respectively, and to each phase magnetic field, each 120 deg. angle is formed so as to generate synthetic rotary magnetic field. By this constitution, the whole surface of hollow part of the iron core 1 is formed as the pole-arc, and the passage of the cast slab is arranged in any position in the hollow part, the uniform stirring of molten steel in the mold can be obtd. Therefore, the iron core between the passages of the cast slabs is not necessary and a distance La between the passage is drastically shortened.
